Bo Burgers!
The thread on the best hamburgers got me thinking ...
When I was in college (in Ithaca, NY), there was a diner called Obie's. A converted railroad car, the whole bit. Anyhow, Obie used to serve something called a Bo Burger:
1. Place burger patty on grill
2. Place small mound of chopped onion on grill
3. Start frying egg, sunny side up
4. Turn over burger, add slab'o'cheese
5. Warm buns (Kaiser-type rolls, not those cheap Wonder Bread things)
6. Put burger on bun, put fried egg on onions, put egg/onion mound on burger, add top half of bun
7. Serve -- fries optional, lettuce, tomato on the side.
After a night of partying, we all would make a bee-line to Obies's for some Bo Burgers. Delicious.
I haven't had one in years, so I googled it up and, sure enough, there are recipes out there. I guess it wasn't just a local thing, but I've still never found any place else that serves them.
Ahhh, good times.
