There are a few good, small eateries near the Duomo.. on small streets. Trattoria Milanese is one.. sorry I don't know the exact address - maybe a Google would help.

I, too, can vouch for the Trattoria Milanese (Via Santa Marta 11 - ask for directions, it's on a hard-to-find alley near the Duomo). Very good osso bucco and risotto Milanese style, and great pastas. It is also inexpensive (about $40/pp for appetizer, entree and dessert). Best yet, the entire menu is in Italian and the waiters can help you with English translations and recommendations if you prefer

If you get out of the Duomo area and into some of the residential neighborhoods you will find a number of good restaurants at very reasonable prices.

One of my favorites is the Bel Aria on Via Meda (I think it is #43 but I might be off by one or two numbers). It can get a bit price (about $45 per person) for dinner but it offers much the same food on a very inexpensive lunch menu.

If you go during warm weather you will have the option of eating in its enclosed garden.
