Best Prime Rib Place in LA

I am a big prime rib fan. So far in LA, I have only truely enjoyed the prime rib served at Lawry's in Beverly Hills and Tam O'Shanter Inn in Los Feliz, which is also owned by Lawry's.

What are your opinions on other restaurants that serve fine prime rib?

Mortons downtown restaurant is quite good. But perhaps the best is the Palm in BH or the Palm downtown near the Staples Center.

While I would not call it the best in L.A., a very good quality "bargain" is Stevens Steak House in the City of Commerce area:

http://www.stevenssteakhouse.com/

I've probably been there fifteen times over the last ten years. Very easy to get to (a block off the Freeway, very close to the Citadel Outlet Mall).

Massive cut of prime rib (20-22oz.) with salad, spaghetti, and veggies is $21. Service is always good, and the atmosphere is upscale Hispanic restaurant. For those not wanting steak, they have large Mexican food platters also.

I have been at Stevens twice. While I enjoyed meal there, I would not put it on par with Lawry's in terms of taste. However, it does have a really upbeat atmosphere with salsa dancing going on on one of the nights I went there.

If you like the Tam'o'shanter then you might like Taylor's steak house.2 locations one on 7th in Korea town the other is on Foothill Blvd in La Canada.
Great meat-prime rib roast on weekends-wonderful daily specials.SKIP THE SALAD however(iceburg and unripe tomato)
Very good drinks at good prices.
Very UN-hip.but atmospheric-this is your dads steak house.

There may be other restaurants which serve Prime Rib, but when I have out of the country visitors, they all want to go to Lawry's. It seems to be an international legend and it never disappoints. They all love it. In fact, the last time I was at Lawry's, I would venture to say that a majority of the diners were either visitors from out of the country or locals celebrating a special occasion. The Prime Rib was really darn great. I also love the waitresses who take great pride in their jobs, even when spinning the salad bowl.

Yes oh yes!! I'm so glad someone else mentioned Taylor's. It's beyond good. But let's face it: you go to Lawry's / Tam o Shanter for prime rib in LA. Five Crowns in Laguna is great too.

How about Claim Jumpers? Only served on weekends it's the largest thing I've ever seen

I've always felt Claim Jumper pushes size over quality (whether prime rib or steak).

I would have to agree with this statement completely.

As for the Five Crowns in Laguna Beach, I have never been there, but it is also owned by Lawrys, so I am not surprised that the prime rib tastes good there as well.

Speaking of Lawry's owned, had prime rib this past Saturday night at Tam O'Shanter. Decent enough, but not memorable.

Had the second to largest cut. Entree came with spinach or creamed corn, plus soup or salad. Soup was beef barley that tasted like it came from a Campbell's can. Price was $27.

Five Crowns is in Corona del Mar, not Laguna and is good - love their popovers & creamed spinach. Avoid the 'California' cut, though - very measly portion.
