Yeah, I'd definitely explore other cuisines in Vegas. I'm sure there are some imported KC- or Texas-style joints out there somewhere, but nothing to write home about.

I'm not really one for the celebrity chefs on the Strip...last time we went, we drove downtown and wandered around that park made out of shipping containers and hit a restaurant a block or so from there. Wish I had written down names...we had great food and there seemed to be half a dozen or so up-and-coming bars and restaurants that *didn't* have the usual casino vibe to them.

I seriously miss the departed Doug's Barbecue in Emeryville.

I've been in Vegas a whopping three times - 1973, 1985, and 1995. Going to guess there has been a wee bit of change since my last visit.

For those of your based in Florida, you should definitely try 4Rivers Smokehouse. They have 13 locations. https://4rsmokehouse.com/

Okay, focusing on KC, we've been to Arthur Bryant's and to Jack Stack; both were phenomenal. What would be the next bucket list place in KC - Joe's? Gates? Somewhere else?

I would be absolutely shocked if there isn't at least one damn good BBQ joint in Vegas. Not Franklin's, but good.

Wasn't that impressed by Gates, but I can fully recommend Oklahoma Joe's. One you don't mention that should never be passed on while you are in KC is LC's. The burnt ends and rib tips are to die for there.

Great space in this trendy up and coming neighborhood just off downtown which has outdoor and indoor seating. They also have numerous beers on tap. Perfect menu and everything we ordered was delicious. Great ribs, brisket and pulled pork plus, burnt ends! The mac & cheese was also outstanding.

How does that compare with North Carolina BBQ (eastern or western)?

Well it's pretty far from Eastern NC BBQ which is a very unique, and to many a very acquired, taste. As far as Western NC it was closer, but not as sweet as Lexington BBQ. The slaw was better too, I'm not really a fan of Western NC slaw.

Joe's KC or LC's have been around forever.

The new kid on the block is Q39. Delicious.

Looks interesting. I'm in Downtown Raleigh a lot but I haven't been there. I'll make sure to give it a try.

Sauceless ribs...I have a hard time getting my head around eating any barbecue without sauce

It's vinegar based BBQ and tangy. I also love tomato based as well. Take home some sauce ya'll.
