you don't have to buy the wine, although they have some good Texas wines. It is the Hawaiian/Texan proprietor, not only knowledgeable about wine; but very entertaining and very funny.

Personal favorites:

Pappy's Smokehouse (STL)
Redsmoke BBQ (DTW)

@morgan1929 and CMK10, either one of you tried the Salt Lick BBQ by the Dell Diamond in Round Rock? Do you think it tastes the same as the one in Driftwood? I personally don't think it's as good as the original location (the one in the airport is even worse, always dried out).

I agree, the one in Driftwood is by far the best.

I haven't tried it yet... and I don't want to wait in line at 8:30am... must be basted in baby tears if it's that good.

The wait is long, but definitely worth it. I usually grab some coffee, a newspaper, and a breakfast taco, then set up my portable chair around 8:30 AM. Usually I am about 10th in line.

...or just make sure to attend an Austin MegaDo where Aaron Franklin is our personal chef for the evening. ;)

Well, I hope we'll be that lucky again, but he's like trying to catch a fart in a windstorm these days. :p

Ah okay, next time I'll stop in, thanks for the tip.

As to Franklin's, I think it's worth the wait. Last time my friend and I got there around 9:30 and were fifteen in line. We brought an iPad and played games and talked. With good company the time goes by quickly.
