What happened to Chowhound.com?

So, I go off-line for 12 days while I'm on vacation in Hawaii, and when I come back my beloved Chowhound.com has apparently become password-protected--even the home page! What gives? Does anyone know how to get back in?

Sorry to be asking this on FT, another fine website that I am also addicted to...but I'm a little desperate.

Hm. About an hour after I posted this, Chowhound came back. Sorry for the false alarm. I still have no idea what happened there.

Maybe they are testing future "enhancements' to the site!

there was some very very funny stuff going on, many people could not get on, posts were disappearing, etc etc. I had not heard of the password thing though.

BTW, if you are a poster to Chowhound, copy and paste your item here as it helps. Too easy to do, I post in multiple places.

Glad to see it's still there. I haven't read it in a while but it seems like a good source.

I also like "Road Food" with Jane & Michael Stern.

I think this might be the case, actually. They have been nattering on about improving the site for months (if not years) and supposedly the time is at last drawing nigh. If they can actually make Chowhound even marginally easier to use, I will be all for the changes. That site has a lot of great information but the format is about as bad as it gets.

When they do maintainence on the site, the Admin mode probably asks for password. Anyway, chowhound.com is still the same Jim has added some Adv. to make the site sustain itself.
