New Dining Guide for Venice
The long awaited update of Michela Scibilia's Osterie & Dintorni is now available.
This is a terrific guide for food in Venice. I would recommend cross referencing with Fodor, Frommer, and Michelin. If the restaurant is in FF&M, don't go. It will be packed.
My personal favorite is agli Alboretti. The cusine is nouvelle Venice.
Two restaurants not included were:
Osteria Giorgione in Canereggio, and Tratoria Giorgione in Castello. both are very traditional.
We had the 17 fixed price 3 course lunch at Osteria Giorgione. We were the only two people in the restaurant at last Sunday in Carnavale. We did not want the desert on the 3 course from the menu. They offered us every other desert in the place as a substitute, and then a grapa or a glass of desert wine.
Also try Santa Marina. Do not sit in the back, as it is noisy with business people cutting deals.
The wine prices in all were very reasonable, as it is hard to pass up a good Amarone or Brunello for 35-50, even if it is not a perfect match with the food.
