Booked for 3* Geranium dinner and 1* Dragsholme Slot lunch for October while staying in DK with friends. Can’t wait. My first dinner at Geranium was in 2013...and I loved it about as much as I loved Noma—both are among my favorite meals of all time. |
We will shortly be eating at restaurant Schwarzwaldstube in Baiersbronn. We’ve been perusing the menus online but can’t find any information about wine pairings...whether there are choices within pairings and the additional cost of a wine pairing compared to ordering a bottle or bottles. Does anyone have experience of this restaurant? Many thanks. |

I just finished up a quick trip to NYC to celebrate a family member’s birthday. Lunch at Jean-Georges was good, I still maintain that the service has gotten a lot better but food has slipped a bit. I started with the uni starter on toast with yuzu and chili. I then had the sweet and sour sweetbreads as my main and finished off with the berry dessert. My dining companion had the bacon wrapped gulf shrimp as his starter, the salmon as the main, and the chocolate dessert. Dinner was was supposed to be at The Modern, but the Midtown blackout put an end to that... they handled it very well though, we sat in their lounge having drinks trying to figure out a backup and they got us into Gramercy Tavern with about a 20 minute wait. Dinner there was great as usual, but I did think the service was a tad more removed than usual. |

St Gerlach (near Maastricht in Holland). This gets 16 pointsi n Gualt Millau but I don't know if they have a Michelin star. If not, that's a disgrace as they *definitely* deserve one, nudging two. Gorgeous setting, superb service, wonderful local produce and excellent execution. Oh, and a lovely wine list. Highly recommended.
Auberge due Mouline Hideux in Belgium, one star. Pigeon was fabulous, 90 points easily, veal was okay but nothing special at 85, service and overall experience (not a single smiling waiter) was poor - 80 points. A total of 85 points, which is not great for a starrred restaurant. Would not recommend this place although the smallish 4* auberge is a rather pleasant place to spend the night. |
Quick summary of our LA weekend:
Dinner at 2* Providence: very good, but a few surprising misses. Portion sizes were a bit too large. Last 2 protein courses were disappointing: a way too briney fish with no balancing acidity (except for the excellent wine pairing), and a disappointing A5 Wagyu that paired poorly with a too weak Cab Franc. Otherwise, all other courses were delicious and impressive, and every other wine pairing was spot on. With as many tables as they have, I don't see a 3rd star coming any time soon. A very good 2* experience. But I definitely still prefer 2* Somni (and 2* Vespertine). Brunch at 1* AOC: wowzers. So yummy. A new fave for LA. The fried chicken and waffle is as amazing as I'd heard. Dinner at 1* Osteria Mozza: excellent. Worth the price of admission. The Osteria side is far nicer (and cooler) than the Pizzeria side on which they tried to seat us, but they moved us to the Osteria since I complained about the lack of air con. The food was delicious. The burrata was sublime. The pastas were wonderful. The pork chop is among the top 3 I've ever had. Can't wait to try again. |

We had dinner at Da Vittorio, a 3 star restaurant which is located near Bergamo. I heared many good things about it and was quite excited.

While the brothers cook in the kitchen Rosella Cerea is responsible for the service. Without question it was the most charming and warm service we experienced in Italy. We opted for the "Tradition menu" which was priced with 190,00 €. They asked for our preferences and even if we prefer cooked or raw fish. While there was no gold or other chi chi on the tables it was cooking on the highest level with top notch ingredients. I can´t praise the dinner high enough. If I consider the quality and what I got elsewere for my money I think value was very good, perhaps even a bargain. It was so much better than Osteria Francescana on every aspect.. I really consider to do a trip next year only to eat here again. |

Today at 3* Lameloise (Eric Pras) in Chagny (Burgundy). A top-notch meal, with some truly amazing dishes. Three stars all the way - very traditional, in the best sense of the word.
They have a 3 course set lunch menu at 82 euros (we went a la carte though), which is fabulous value. Highly recommended. |
Du Bon Laboureur (in Chenonceau) 1*. At 32 euros for 3 courses this was probably the cheapest and best value michelin meal I've had in a long time. Great food, beautifully presented and a solid 1 star, in a great environment.

Chateau de Beaulieu (northern France, near Bethune). This is a nice country estate hotel in an otherwise unattratctive area of France (but good for a stopover on the way to/from the UK or northern Europe). Thte 2* restaurant was closed but the bistrot was open and served what was definitely a 1*, nudging 2* dinner for the ridiculous price of 40 euros for 4 courses in a lovely garden setting. Great food, nice room, highly recommended.

Alright we are half way through the year and I've eaten at a bunch of places: Eleven Madison Park - Once in Jan and again in May. Have been going at least once per year for the last ten years. Always at least an 8/10. Gaggan - 8/10. Bo Lan - 1/10. Waste of my life. Ikoyi - 9/10. Love it. Gramercy Tavern - 9/10. I had been there only twice before and am surprised I don't go there more often. Confirmed Reservations: El Cellar, Osteria Francescana. Thinking of visiting: Pujol. I'm in NYC again for Christmas and EMP 3 times a year is a bit much, so will ask my team to get Chefs Table or Le Bernardin. Never been to Chef's Table but LB didn't wow me the last time I was there. Might also try a Sushi place but not sure where in NYC to go. Nakazawa wow'd me the first time and disappointed the second. Yasuda is always a classic but I want to try something new. |
