Where to find fine hot chocolate
Some folks are into premium coffee or tea, I like finding a quality hot chocolate in new places. There's a long buried thread on it somewhere, but rather than dig it out, I thought it was time for a new paean to the glories of hot chocolate.
My next trip is to Italy, roaming from Rome to Milan. anyone got a suggestion where to go for cocoa?

I love hot chocolate too, but rarely order it because it is fattening. I couldn't resist last week when I was having breakfast at an italian cafe in Ventura, California. It was Baci Hot Chocolate. Really rich hot chocolate with a bit of the flavor of Perugina Baci candy, which i love. Plus it came with a little Baci chocolate on the saucer. There's a photo in one of the dining forums.

I had a nice hot chocolate at a cafe by the Doma in Firenze on a rainy Sunday morning of 9/17/2006. Corner location.

perugia is lovely - nice hills. Umbria has great hill towns. Omg Im so excited for your holiday. We spent days in Umbria in both 2006 and 2011. Swoon.

Lindt stores generally have quite good hot chocolate, and with circa 500 locations world-wide a bit easier to get to. Plus sell chocolate flakes so you can make your own hot chocolate at home. I have found better, but only single locations that are hard to reach.

I did find the Perugina Cocoa powders; they make a range of them, varying in intensity. I saw them in several supermarkets so future cocoa hunters should not have difficulty locating them. I love the recipe for a mug cake on the back of the box of one, haven't made one of those since my kid was in elementary school.

For other dedicated chocoholics, I would recommend the Chocohotel, in Perugia but not at the top of the hill, a bit dated, but with an eye-popping chocolate breakfast buffet. Everyone should have chocolate fondue for breakfast at least once in their lifetime.

The discussion is here in case anyone is curious — especially as I am certain that at least some of the content may still be useful and valid.
