Whole milk
For some reason our grocery store has only been carrying whole milk from the local dairy whose milk I usually buy. I bought a half gallon last time and have been putting it in my cereal and coffee. It's soooo good. Usually I buy 2% or oat milk (how do you milk an oat? :D)
|
I go with organic 3.8% whole milk. Delicious. The watery stuff just isn't nice.
|
I only drink oat milk with coffee but have organic 2% for our child.

I always have whole milk. Normally it's just in tea where perhaps it is not so vital but occasionally I eat cereal or porridge and the watery stuff is disgusting in those.

I was raised on skim milk and to me, whole milk just tastes too heavy. Definitely a noticeable flavor difference, so I'd probably cook with whole or 2%, but I always drink skim.
I’ll even enjoy any white milk with ice. I use 2% for baking and maybe I should get some whole milk for baking. |

No ice unless it's mixed with something. I'm OK with the consistency but I have no desire to make it worse. :D

I never liked skim milk. I grew up on whole milk, but for some reason we switched to 2%. I like it fine - whole milk almost has the mouth feel of cream, so that's a treat whenever I have it.
When I was trying to lose weight, I thought about skim milk on my breakfast cereal. It turned out that, as long as it was ice cold, it was fine. Still a no-go for drinking though. |
As an adult, I rarely drink milk by the glass - maybe alongside a cookie or brownie, and I like a little dairy something with my coffee.
When we had kids, we started them on whole milk but after a few years our pediatrician told us to switch to no more than 2% fat. Given how much milk they drink, I get it, but selfishly wish we were still using whole, as I think it's far superior for the few ways I use it. |
I generally drink 2%, occasionally whole if there is some left over from something I've cooked, but blue skim is really unappetizing. Occasionally, I'll drink a pint of it (if I can't see it) with a pastry bought on the fly.

we have 2%, fairlife chocolate, fairlife white, Chobani oat, and a backup Silk oat (on sale!). I’m thinking of getting Whole now for the roll-ppang buns. |
I thought drinking milk was only for children who need the calcium. But adults?? To me, that's just weird.

how do you drink your milk, if not plain? Do you mean that you have it in a glass or with ice or a spoon?

Sorry, I meant I don't just drink a glass of milk. I need cookies, a pastry or something else to go with it.

the ice adds a nicely extreme cold feature I used to have Licor Cuarenta y Tres with milk and ice; then switched to oat milk but now I’m out. I have Amaretto so use that with oat milk & ice As for licor 43, that stuff is good with espresso; in Mexico, it's called a carajillo. |

I’m getting whole milk for the baking recipes that call for it. It’ll be interesting to see if there are differences! |
Whole milk
The Case Against Low-fat Milk Is Stronger Than Ever In fact, in a separate study published in the American Journal of Nutrition, another group analyzed the effects of full fat and low fat dairy on obesity and found that among 18,438 women in the Women’s Health Study, those who consumed the most high-fat dairy products lowered their risk of being overweight of obese by 8%. Together, the body of data is beginning to reveal both that full-fat dairy has a place in a healthy diet, and also how focusing on one nutrient in the diet may backfire. When dietary guidelines began urging people to lower the amount of fat they ate, the idea was to reduce the amount of cholesterol and unhealthy fats in the body. But by focusing just on cutting out fat, experts didn’t count on the fact that people would compensate for the missing fat and start loading up on carbohydrates, which the body converts into sugar—and then body fat. |

does this mean that the full fat in milk is a good fat, the way salmon and avocado are good cholesterols and not bad cholesterols? Plus nuts being good fats?

LOL I don't see sour cream or cottage cheese on that list either! :D

I grew up drinking whole milk. I’m not sure 2% had even been invented. I think skim milk was a thing in the 50’s but I never saw any in the fridge. About 10 years ago, I was diagnosed as lactose intolerant. At that point, I stopped consuming all dairy products. I didn’t miss milk which I only used to moisten cereal anyway. Gradually, dairy and dairy-oids began to return to our home. We use whole almond milk on cereal. I wish it were whiter (can I say that?). It’s grey color is a little off putting. When the grandkids are here, there is Lactaid whole milk in the fridge. I taste and see the difference. But when they leave, the next bottle will be almond milk.

Fairlight brand milk is lactose free. I think A2 is also low on lactose but I’m not fully sure because I don’t use it.
|
You don't have to be lactose intolerant to drink lactaid. I used to buy it because I use milk so rarely...just cereal and it has a longer shelf life but i have no issues with lactose.

I admit that I would generally have milk with those items in the morning... If consumed in the evening, it's whisky to go alongside the sweets. |
Milk & ice with either amaretto or Cuarenta y Tres is really good.

A glass of milk goes with cookies, pastries, pies (though ice cream is better), cake, etc.
Pastries, again tea or coffee. Alternatively clotted cream. Pies should be single or double cream. Cake should be moist enough to eat without anything extra, but accompany with tea or coffee. I'm not getting milk anywhere in that. |
