The only thing I can think of when I hear Crystal Pepsi is SNL's lampooning of it in this fake commercial. (For those that aren't old enough, this was stylized off of the original Crystal Pepsi ads that featured Van Halen's "Right Now" track).

Many years ago now, I used to sometimes eat at Kentucky Fried chicken for lunch. I would get the mashed potatoes as a side. One day I was warned that there was something wrong with the food coloring but that otherwise everything was fine. I opened up the little cup, and the grave was translucently clear. Tasted just like gravy, but was clear. That was when I realized how fake some of Kentucky Fried's stuff was.

I hope the 11 herbs and spices aren't fake!

Talking about miserable failures - I wonder if we should expect Pepsi Blue to make a return too?

i remember the clear cola craze from the 90s. i was never a fan of pepsi but was dating someone who loved it. i recall it tasted the same as regular pepsi (at least to me).

i always felt that clear colas flopped because they removed the caffeine as well as the coloring. you might as well decarbonate it too.

but if you're going to bring back old sodas, can we revive 7up gold?

In the same early 1990s timeframe as Crystal Pepsi and Zima (a clear malt beverage), there was also Amoco Clear -- gasoline without coloring. Better for the ozone hole was the tagline. (Whatever happened to the ozone hole?)

Wonder how many times those liquids got confused.

I thought they had to color gas to distinguish it from heating fuel, or is that the other way around?

How many people look at the gas they put in their car anyways?

I tried it recently and I agree with everyone's assessment that it tastes pretty much like regular Pepsi. Which also makes me wonder: what's the point? The dark colored Pepsi is pretty much just as bad for you and I'm not opposed to lemon-lime sodas like Sierra Mist/7up/Sprite.

Disclaimer: I was way too young to drink it when it originally came out so I could be missing something.

The original was caffeine free, which was a big difference (the new formula is not), and had no "artificial" additives. This new version does not taste quite the same as I remember, but I still kind of like it.

Btw, I did eventually find it at Dollar General. they had two bottles left. According tot he lady there it sold out very quickly. Family Dollar also said they had it and someone came in and bought them out of it.

I thought the big difference between clear sodas and dark sodas was that dark sodas contained phosphoric acid.
