I really enjoyed the Centenario Rum on a recent trip to Costa Rica. 7 or 12 yr with ice and slice of lime by the pool and 25 yr neat in the evening if I wanted something a little sweeter (and cheaper down there!) than scotch.

Indeed. I have a bottle (of the cheaper stuff) sitting on my kitchen counter, which a friend of a friend smuggled in for me. I can't wait to open it.
Pampero Aniversario from Venezuela is excellent as well. Friends who came to stay this fall brought me a bottle, and it was wonderful.

Not sure I appreciate Havana Club as much as you do...
I certainly prefer Havana Club over Bacardi and its the best rum in the <$15/bottle category (talking European prices, not the ridiculous Canadian liquor prices
), but its not something I get overly excited about. But it certainly is a good choice for a rum&coke.

I just purchased a litre of Mangoustan's Rhum from Haiti for $6. It has the perfect weight for a mojito or a tasty 'rhum' and tonic (about half way dark). Oh yeah, I'm in Cambodia right now. Not a lot of 'sin taxes' obviously.

Atlantico is a quality DR rum as well and very easy to find ex-DR. Big fan of the Centenarrio 25 from CR; but these two where just gifted to me and I can highly recommend.

The HC pictured is the former "Barrel Proof", the Abuelo is very good and reasonable priced too.
What else to pick up?
