Another fan of the Domincan Brugal Extra Viejo. Associated with many happy memories, not all of them clear ones.

I really enjoyed the Centenario Rum on a recent trip to Costa Rica. 7 or 12 yr with ice and slice of lime by the pool and 25 yr neat in the evening if I wanted something a little sweeter (and cheaper down there!) than scotch.

Indeed. I have a bottle (of the cheaper stuff) sitting on my kitchen counter, which a friend of a friend smuggled in for me. I can't wait to open it.

Pampero Aniversario from Venezuela is excellent as well. Friends who came to stay this fall brought me a bottle, and it was wonderful.

I certainly prefer Havana Club over Bacardi and its the best rum in the <$15/bottle category (talking European prices, not the ridiculous Canadian liquor prices), but its not something I get overly excited about. But it certainly is a good choice for a rum&coke.

I just purchased a litre of Mangoustan's Rhum from Haiti for $6. It has the perfect weight for a mojito or a tasty 'rhum' and tonic (about half way dark). Oh yeah, I'm in Cambodia right now. Not a lot of 'sin taxes' obviously.

I just finished a bottle of Brugal this week a friend brought back from the DR. I like the brand enough to bring some back when I'm there which sadly isn't often enough.

You use Havana Club to make a rum & Coke? I prefer to mix up myself a Cuba Libre. More sophisticated.

Atlantico is a quality DR rum as well and very easy to find ex-DR. Big fan of the Centenarrio 25 from CR; but these two where just gifted to me and I can highly recommend.

The HC pictured is the former "Barrel Proof", the Abuelo is very good and reasonable priced too.

What else to pick up?
