TastyKake Butterscotch Krimpets

I grew up in Philadelphia where these were absolutely my favorite dessert. We just can't get them anywhere in California - but my wonderful brother-in-law always comes through at Christmas.

Two whole boxes - they will be savored and cherished like a case of our favorite wine. I doubt if we can make them last until next year.

Although it's a pricy way to obtain them, Amazon.com does carry them.

Some product is available from http://www.tastykake.com but you will probably find better prices on Amazon.

I've found that several of the "Philly Cheesesteak" places in LA carry TastyKake products as well.

Yep, as does Jake's Steaks in SF.

Ditto for the "Philly Cheesesteak" chain in the SF Bay area, though they only have a few kinds--usually chocolate cupcakes, peanut butter and/or chocolate Kandy Kakes, and a couple of others.

A few years back, my local Safeways and a few other stores started carrying Tastykakes (jubilation!), but after a short while they stopped (tragedy!). I guess Tastykake's venture into our local market failed while Hostess (aargh!) continued to dominate until its demise. Bay Area folks think they're such discriminating eaters, but what can you say about a place that has Little Debbies and Hostess, but no Tastykakes or Drake's and only a limited line of Entenmann's? It's a junk food desert, I tell you.

The Tastykakes freeze remarkably well also.

I buy the Spice Krimpets, which they only sell in the area in the fall, and freeze a few boxes, so I can make them last in the lean months.

Although I notice that Amazon has them in stock now. Hmmm. Might have to buy a couple boxes.

When we went to Alaska a few years ago, we stayed at a fishing lodge where the owner was from South Jersey. He begged me to bring a couple boxes of PB Kandy Kakes (Or TandyTakes, as they used to be called) out to him, and was practically tearful when I showed up with them.

I'm hanging around in Wilmington for a few days. Tomorrow morning I'll skip the Dunkin Donuts and go to a Wawa instead to pick up some of these Tasty Cakes mentioned here to have with my morning coffee.
