that must be some special occasion!!! It's a d'Oliveiras I assume? I visited them last year and bought a bottle of their 1850 (Sercial). The 1802 Terrantez is listed at US$9000 on wine-searcher. Please let us know (in detail!) how it was!!

Kumeu River - New Zealand's best Chardonnay and voted best in the world a couple of years ago, especially this one, their Mate's vineyard, 2017. Delicious and at US$45-ish a great deal compared to Burgundy.

A wonderful night with our wine gang...amongst others, a Ca' del Bosco Annamaria 2004 (one of the best Italian sparklers I've ever had), Philipponat 1981 (beautiful), then a 1950s Berry Bros bottling of oloroso Sherry (amazing), Bell Hill Chardonnay from NZ, Vosne Romanee les Suchots 1976 (delish), Brane Cantenac 1984 (a bit one-dimensional this), Barros 100 year old special edition (average age is 65 years), and a 1980 St Jean from California Chardonnay. There was also a 1989 Vouvray from Brediff Grande Annee and a few other things that I can't remember. It was quite the evening.

For the non-seafood items at a Spanish Tapas evening, we were treated with 3 red Spanish wines, from different regions.

Conde de Valdemar Gran Reserva 2008 (Rioja)
Oinoz Prestigio 2009 (Castilla y Leon)
Pardelasses 2013 (Castilla-Priorat)

My favourite was the slightly spicy Oinoz Prestigio, perfectly matching the tapas dishes.

2016 Bedrock Wine Staves of Waidhofen Sauvignon Blanc -- one of my favorite white wines out there, unfortunately down to just one bottle left after tonight

For a celebration tonight, bought a pair of Chablis Premier Cru Butteaux 2013. Preparing in the wine-cooler.

For a full English (Scottish?) breakfast, I enjoyed a couple of glasses of Chateaux Calvimont Graves 2015. Drinking well now, probably better in 3-5 years

Very interesting. By choice for me it would be Champagne, initially in the form of a Buck's Fizz and then moving to straight. But, when I finally retire, I shall have to try Claret with breakfast....

TBH, the PBB (Pre-Breakfast Beverage) was a glass, or three, of Joseph Perrier Vintage Brut 2008. But for the breakfast Red Graves as stated above. Actually red Bourdeaux goes very well with Black Pudding

IMHO, life is too short needing to retire before indulging a good Claret with breakfast
