We've had it for many years, bought it was it was still Soda Club and you could only get the tanks refilled by home delivery or at boating stores in the USA.

I picked up my SodaStream (Fountain Jet) model from Staples. It was $89.99, but I had a $25 off coupon and I used $60 worth of Staples Rewards from ink recycling.
I don't drink much soda/pop/cola, but I like how I can make my own and adjust the sweetness. I use the Williams-Sonoma cola syrup (made from real sugar cane).
I've had it a few months now (I used it about once or twice a week) and have yet to need a new CO2 cartridge. The best deal on cartridges (aside from self-refilling it), I think, is via Bed Bath & Beyond with the $5 off $15 purchase coupon. I think the cartridge (with empty trade-in) is $15.99?

I'd love to get one but WILL NOT
I love dr. pepper/mr pibb but don't keep any in the house (If I'm going to waste the calories I want it from the fountain). Its my understanding that sodastream tastes like it came from the fountain? That would be very dangerous for my waste line!

I have a friend who's deeply into cocktail-related things, and uses it to make his own tonic water, a process which involves all sorts of mysterious ingredients some of which aren't easily obtainable. I must say the result is delicious.

I keep seeing it and can't quite understand why anyone would want one. I guess it's mostly because I'm not a soda drinker and never was. Plain water or the occasional seltzer is just about all I drink.
When I feel like a soda, I buy a can or bottle of it, and make sure it has real live sugar.
Even for making seltzer, well, it sounds like a large expense to keep it it in cartridges, much like a Keurig coffee pot needs pods.
I think we'd all be better off if no one drank soda of any kind.

It's a fairly useless appliance if you don't drink carbonated drinks (or in the case of the rice cooker eat rice).
If you prefer drinks with bubbles in them it may be an appliance some people want for their home.

OT but it turns out OK in the micro?
We got a rice cooker for a wedding present and we still use it to this day (one of only a couple that we still use). It makes rice (both sticky and "normal) very well, super easy to use, keeps it warm for hours so its kind of like set it and forget it.
