I admit it - I hate fresh eggs, specifically egg whites. I hate the texture, smell and flavor. I discovered that powdered whole eggs, usually found at hotel omelet bars and buffets, are not so bad and I can easily tolerate scrambling them or making omelets.

So I decided to get some for myself and start making a proper breakfast....then I ran into a roadblock...no one seems to sell them.

I've tried Publix, Costco, GFS, Cheney Bro, Restaurant Depot, Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, Army Navy Surplus, Bass Pro Shops, various health/nutrition shops and even one 'survivalist' shop - no one seems to sell them and in south Florida, we don't have camping shops or REI.

Short of ordering on Amazon and waiting a week, can anyone think of a store that might sell simple powdered whole eggs?

Really no one sells them?
I can go get 10-15 cans in a matter of moments, will you be anywhere near IAH or LAX in the next 2 weeks?

They also generally have the whole powdered eggs just next to it.

Here H-E-B and Kroger carry them, I rather like them for cooking in some dishes.

I am quite sure I bought them in the baking section at Publix more than once while in SoFla.
Academy stores also carry them in the camping section.

I've checked my store and called others - I will have another look at one of their 'super' size stores.

Try the restaurant supply and baking supply houses.

Outdoor stores like REI also have them, but they will cost a fortune there.

Camping stores have them.

I checked Cheney Bros, Restaurant Depot and GFI - they all sell bulk food supplies to the trade. Sysco won't sell retail.

I found one Publix with the powdered whites product, but no whole egg products...so the search continues. Egg Beaters are egg whites with chemical colors and flavoring - yuck.

If I can't find them in a Publix, I guess my only option is Amazon and waiting for delivery.

Or ask the Publix manager to order for you, if you shop at one a lot they are very good about answering/getting.

As Steph3n said, ask the grocery manager to order some. Might take a few days but they will do it. That is one thing I love about Publix, as long as the request is reasonable and the product available they will order it.
As for amazon, two words: 'Prime Membership' most anything they have shipped in 2-3 days for free. Oh and the bonus, free streaming videos.

I asked the Publix manager - they said a few weeks, and the egg white product from the same manufacturer was $20, much more than Amazon charged for a larger container of powdered whole eggs.

So, tired of wasting time calling everyone, I ordered from Amazon and tossed in a bag of dried peanut powder, which you can mix with water to create peanut butter with 85% fewer calories and fat (the product had 4.5 stars out of 5 and everyone raved about it, so I figured I'd give it a shot).

Omelet city, here I come.

How does one prepare the powdered eggs "sunny-side up"?

Having spent some of my early years at sea for extended periods, often in locales in which there were no friendly, convenient refrigerated stores ships in the neighborhood, I foreswore ever again partaking of powdered eggs and powdered milk, unless they were unidentifiable components in baked goods.

Were I searching for powdered eggs in modest quantities, after Amazon which sells everything, I would look to local/area restaurant suppliers (most of which discourage "retail" sales), the bakery at a large supermarket which might sell me some, or to a friendly restaurant owner willing to buy from Sysco, etc. and resell to me.

Yeah, any camping supply stores which sell freeze dried foods will have them.

(Tongue in cheek) Go to Quebec, they have all the powdered egg in the world, or so it seems, serving it up at hotel breakfasts across the city!

I cannot ABIDE powdered eggs, they make me feel nauseated at best! The hotel owner who tried to tell me they weren't powdered, and halfway through his sentence, gave up because it was clear he was fooling no one. It is the only city on the planet I've come across them en masse, is it a Québécois thing?
