Just thought of another. This one was probably inevitable due to low traffic and a down economy in that area, but I used to love "The Turf Club" near Corning, New York. I would frequent it often when I did business there in the 80's and 90's. Best Chateaubriand I ever had served with white asparagus and a roasted tomato with browned cheese and piped around with whipped potatoes. Superb. Combine that with their table-side Cherries Jubilee and I was in dining heaven.
I'd love to eat there just one more time. I'd make a special trip there just to hit that restaurant... but...alas. Too late. |

This last year, my absolute favorite restaurant in the world closed. I was shocked. I loved "Bistro 110" in Chicago's Water Tower area. I went there every chance I could, and especially for Brunch on Sunday. This French Bistro was outstanding. I had never seen any restaurant pair fresh French bread with roasted Garlic and home made Raspberry preserves before. Incredible. And their rotisserie Chicken with fresh roasted veggies (including Parsnip) was the best ever.
They closed without warning, and recently re-opened as "An Italian" Restaurant. Go figure. An Italian restaurant in Chicago. How unique. So I'm in mourning. Does anyone else have a restaurant they "Mourn" for? Ah well.. I guess thats business sometimes, but it felt like my heart was ripped out. But I guess, the aim of the game is to maximize profit, so shall find another restaurant tenant, as usually these type of outfits sell for $300,000, and I'm offering a turnkey restaurant for nothing.:( |

We bought a commercial property with Cheesecake Cafe Restaurant as one of the tenants. My wife's favorite restaurant.. and all seemed well, until a local restauranteur bought it ran it into the ground. I was mourning when it switched over to a Glory of India (Indian food) because the restauranteur was running another one pretty succesfully.. but it too did not do well.. rent was behind, and I unfortunately had no choice but to change the locks on the restaurant.

Outstanding opportunity AM. I feel the pain of eviction you had to place on thr tennants but unfortunately they left you no choice. Im sure you will fill that space soon. If I were into commercial real estate Id be interested. Keep the faith.

I also have another restaurant interested on the other half of the space, so we'll see if there is a marriage in the works here. |
La Belle Epoque, Chateaufort en Yvelines, France.
Michel Peignaud has left twenty years ago, but I still fondly remember: - Le homard à toute vapeur - Le débuché de biche et sa meute de petits légumes - Les ravioles de fois gras au jus de truffes (more than exquisite) - Le dessert préféré de ma fille Isabelle and his extraordinary blend of cuisine from Berry (Oeufs couilles d'ânes !), Brittany and ... the far East. Alain Rayé, originally from Albertville, where I usually had a pleasant stop at his Uginet restaurant on my way to les Trois Vallées, took over for just a few years, with a different, but very original style. Ever since, it has been a pretty much standard restaurant. In summertime, dinner on the terrace overlooking the vallon is still enjoyable, but the magic has sadly gone. |
Not big in Canada.. but a US national chain is showing some interest in most of the space.
Will be interesting to see who will end up becoming the new tenant here. |
my big loss was signatures in dc. the infamous jack abramoff restaurant for the gop. we accidentaled in early on, behaved, and became permanent fixtures for the private events in the back dining rooms.
|
Great news on that, AM. Keep me posted. I own a share of a restaurant chain based in the Midwest but we are about 20 years from Canadian expansion or I'd be interested.
Jouy31 I used to live in France but don't know that restaurant. Sounds wonderful however. I am sorry for your loss. :( Slaweki, I DID know that restaurant. Condolences. :( |
Awesome.. which restaurant chain do you own a share of? An individual restaurant you're currently operating.

I'll "PM" you on this. As a Feduciary responsibility to my partners, we don't discuss this in open forums. We own a chain of restaurants, open our own secured establishments and we sell franchises. These are fairly upscale, yet not over the top. You space sounds perfect for what we look for, but alas, our business plan is to not even consider piercing Canadian borders for at least 20 years. Check your PM. ;)^ |

I was not a happy camper in 2010 after running a 60K in Central Park I wanted to relax at the ESPN Zone at Times Square and the door was locked and I read the closing letter. Not that the food was great but what a neat place to hang out and meet people from all over.

Ben Pao in Chicago. I still dream of Black Pepper Sea Scallops and Seven Flavor Chicken. :(
