The Irish Whiskey thread
I noticed that we were lacking an Irish thread here, so I figured I should start one. For some reason I have never liked Scotch. I really hate blended Scotch and probably psychologically I'm not interested in single malt Scotch. Also I'm mainly a Bourbon drinker.
But I live in Europe now and go to Ireland often so Irish Whiskey is much easier to obtain than good Bourbon. And I have discovered the greatness of single malt Irish whiskey! At duty free in DUB I bought a bottle of 16 year old Bushmills single malt and found it to be extraordinarily delicious. I'm now saving up for a bottle of the 21 year old which seems to be both rare and expensive. For regular Irish whiskey I do love Tullamore Dew. Jamieson I can take or leave though. It doesn't really do anything for me. Any other lovers of the Irish here? |
I love Bushmills, but don't care for Jameson. I use Bushmills when I can't sleep or if I'm in a lot of pain, I'll have some, and find that it's very helpful. :D

Enjoy the lower end Irish Whiskeys. Paddy's and Powers do me just fine. :D

Would Bailey's be appropriate for this thread? If you love Bailey's, be sure to refrigerate after opening. I know the consequences of sipping old Baileys.@:-)

Anyone Mix it with anything? Jameson and Ginger is pretty good. Other thoughts?

I've never considered mixing with anything other than ice cubes. And I would never mix a single malt Irish. But maybe I'll try an Jameson and ginger one day.

Back in my drinking days Tullamore Dew was my preferred Irish whiskey. It was a nice change from my usual Kentucky straight bourbon. Only with ice, I never mixed a whiskey.

stimpy, totally OT, but I went to a Paris bistro you recommended in another thread (Bistro Mazarin) and was totally blown away. It was fantastic! I'm leaving March 8 to spend 10 days in Provence, based in Bonnieux. Any rec's down in that area? We can take this to PM if that's better. |

On a recent trip to England, I became acquainted with a triple malt scotch whiskey called Monkey Shoulder. After coming back to the US, I missed it so much I ordered a couple of bottles from England. Good stuff!
