We make ours like this (or variations, depending on what we have on hand.)
Lettuce
Kidney Beans (rinsed and drained)
Grated cheddar (or any cheese you prefer)
Fritos
Catalina Dressing
Etras or variations can include
jalapenos
hamburger meat seasoned with taco spices
garbanzo beans
ranch style beans
tomatoes
salsa
Easy and a favorite in my house!

Is taco salad good, bad, or evil? Should it be mostly lettuce and other veggies, topped with a sprinkling of cheese, meat/chili, sour cream, salsa and tortilla strips, or should it be primarily meat/chili, cheese, salsa, and tortilla strips with a bit of lettuce and a hint of veggies?
I'd prefer primarily lettuce and veggies, with salsa as dressing, plus a bit of meat and sour cream, with tortilla strips to add a crunch, but I'm finishing up one that was like a giant bowl of chili with a hint of lettuce and veggies.

It is hard to find a decent taco salad at restaurants. When I make one at home I put all my favorite and fresh ingredients in it. I hate the taco salads at fast food restaurants, they just aren't tasty and I find them too calorie laden for me. Mi Cocina in the DFW area has a salad called a Rico salad that has a good base of lettuce, fajita meat, tortilla strips, tomatoes, onion and avocado which comes with your choice of dressings. I don't know if you would exactly call it a taco salad since it comes in a bowl instead of a taco shell bowl but it is close enough for me.
Lots of lettuce and veggies, and some cheese, meat, sour cream, and tortillas.

Taco Time.. I like the taco salad with 1000 island..
Taco Salads can be a low fat, healthy meal.. but on the go, I can only cross my fingers, and hope that its good for the body..

Picked up the fixings for taco salad while grocery shopping today. I think that will be dinner on Tuesday evening.
