Conrad Tokyo
Maybe I missed it somewhere on this board but definitely the bar at the Conrad Tokyo should be mentioned here. It has a stunning view of the water and the live jazz can't be beat.

Top of the Hub in Boston is at the top of the Prudential tower and has decent food and great views. Not the best food in Boston (my vote goes to l'Espalier for that, but a great combo of food+view+ambiance that make it worth a visit.

Don't forget all those tv/radio towers in the former USSR.
Tashkent: Tashkent Tower (Space Restaurant)--great views of the city and turns every hour. Food wasn't too memorable. Moscow: Ostankino Tower (7th Cloud? Restaurant). Didn't like the food and typical surly service but good views. They also have them in some of the other former republics. I've only been to the Moscow and Tashkent ones so I don't know anything else. Also don't forget the Beach Tower in Okinawa. Buffet was good, not too overpriced. Ankara--Atakule. We just made it to the observation deck, the restaurant is called "Sevilla" but I don't know if it was open or not. |
I see several las vegas places mentioned, but none of them are Mix at the top of THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay. It counts as both a restaurant (Alain Ducasse!!) and a bar/lounge/night club. Spectacular views the entire Las Vegas Strip.

Formatting for Panorama lounge is off. I think it is missing the closing quote in the URL.

Allow me to add a few more.
Beijing: Atmosphere in the China World Summit Wing The China Grille in the Park Hyatt The rooftop of the Emperor Hotel, it's only ~5 floors above the ground (which is a good thing because there are no elevators), but the view is the best by far of these three HK: This is somewhat hard to judge because almost every 5-star hotel in HK has a bar on a high floor with stunning views. But, the LKF hotel, the Penn, and the Sheraton are my top 3, in spite of the fact that a very unpleasant food poisoning episode at the latter caused me to end my love affair with raw oysters. |

Skypoint in Q1 on the Gold Coast. I live in the Q1 and it's a great location, amazing views and not overally expensive food (though you do have to pay admission)

I just found this thread, and I want to say thanks. This is a pretty awesome list and I plan to try some of these places as I visit the cities listed!

Chicago: Cite on the 70th floor of Lake Point Tower. A great Sunday brunch and a private feel since you have to walk through the condo building lobby to get upstairs.
Detroit: Iridescence on the 16th floor of the Motor City Casino Hotel has diverse cuisine in a room with cathedral-high ceilings Louisville: Ruth's Chris - Typical steakhouse menu on the 16th floor of a unique 1960s office tower Toronto: Toula - Italian cuisine on the 38th floor of the Harbour Castle Hotel London: Galvin at Windows - Pricey continental fare atop the London Hilton Park Lane London: The Restaurant at the Tate Modern - a great lunch place with broad views of the Thames Austria - Salzburg: Hotel Europa Restaurant offers views of the old city from the 15th floor Germany - Garmisch-Partenkirchen: Forsthaus Graseck - Take a private cable car up a small mountain for gorgeous views from the restaurant in this Bavarian mountain lodge. Germany - Travemünde: Über den Wolken atop the Maritim Hotel, by far the tallest building in the area, offers views of ships traversing the Bay of Lübeck and Mecklenburg that are both stunning and eerie as the sun sets |

I'll add my vote for Top of the Hub in Boston, too. ^ It's a pretty darn good way to spend a meal; plus, on most clear days, you can see the planes take-off/land at BOS. :p
I think the best value is to go for lunch as they have a prix fixe lunch menu. Currently, it's $22 for 3 courses: choice of starter (usually soup du jour or salad/appetizer), main course (usually 3 options: meat, seafood, vegetarian), and choice of dessert. For the Back Bay are, $22 really isn't that bad for a 3-course lunch. Just remember that in order to get a seat in the dining room, there is a dress code, but not to worry - if you're in jeans/shorts, you can still eat in the lounge/bar tables. |
