Strange. I get steam out of the top vent, but no bubbling. Out of curiosity, do you rinse your white rice (a lot) before cooking? That wouldn't be the cause of the leak/bubbling, but if you're seeing white liquid it sounds as if your rice isn't sufficiently rinsed. At the very least, it might make cleanup easier.

Yup, based on experience with them in Japan I'd say lack of rinsing and too much water for cooking. Rinse better and slowly reduce the amount of water each time until it's just right.

Agreed on the rinsing.
I swirl mine round rather like a gold prospector and change the water until it's clear.
Too much starch equals gunge.

I bought this rice washing bowl recently. It drains slowly from the bottom and also has a strainer on the side. I find that if I rub the grains together while washing (sort of like I was soaping my hands) it rinses much more quickly than simply filling the pot with water and emptying repeatedly.

I do rinse it, but not much. I will try that.

I will try both.

Because there's zero need?

I'd wager the porridge setting is for rice porridge (congee) rather than oats.

The rice cooker is fully auto, just press the button, a pressure cooker needs to be watched and timed

shuigao is likely correct that the Zoji's 'porridge' setting was designed for congee (aka rice porridge) rather than oats.

However, I use my Zoji quite frequently for steel-cut oats. I prep the night before, and use the timer feature so they are ready first thing in the morning. 2 cups steel-cut oats, 2/3 cup chopped dates, and 7 cups water makes a great batch of oats (no need to add sugar).

Rolled oats have a much shorter cooking time than steel-cut; since the porridge setting works well for steel-cut oats, I can imagine that it turned your rolled oats to mush.

Tonight I used slightly less water than the rice cooker bowl called for. I also washed the rice for a few passes. The result was significantly less white watery crud under the rice cooker, but still some. I think I will try less water next time.

I use a small Zojirushi cooker.
It plays cute tunes when starting up and when done, like twinkle twinkle little star. lol

Rice cooking is very good but takes a much longer time than my old cheap National brand.
