I don't mix my wasabi with my soy sauce. I dip my sushi in the soy, and eat the wasabi separately. Also, if I'm in a hurry I'll just eat with my hands.

I've heard that most "wasabi" is actually horseradish used in imitation.

Smear a fingernail's worth of wasabi on sushi
Dip sushi in soy sauce
Enjoy

Oh, and for variation, I flip the wasabi side half the time, so that sometimes the wasabi hits the roof of my mouth, other times the tongue. Interesting sensations both ways.
