Your food confessions
Bless me, Emeril, for I have sinned ....
I have a weakness for rotten peanuts and burned popcorn. The peanuts are a chance find, but I burn the popcorn on purpose. That way, I get what I want and no one ever steals popcorn from my bag twice. |
I oddly like burned popcorn as well! Always a plus that no one steals popcorn from you too :)
|
I like the flat bread pizza from quiznos on the AC flight from last month. Got sold out quick, had to fight for the last two for my family. Got it, tasted like rubber:p, but tasted better because it was the last two chicken pizzas.^
|
I put ketchup on almost everything. The two exceptions are most vegetables and chinese food in America.
I use duck sauce on chinese food. My wife calls it my chinese ketchup.:D |

My confession is that I'm a 'trend' eater: I'll eat something that I like so much that I will then eat it constantly over the next few days. After a few dajys of indulgence, I grow sick of the food item, and go on to something else. |

Me too!! When I get a 'taste' for something, its pretty serious. Except it usually takes me longer than a few days. I went on a rueben sandwich bender once. Every day for lunch for a couple months. Then I didn't eat another one for like 6 years. Same with marinated artichoke hearts. |
I lust for a Dairy Queen Chocolate Covered Cherry Blizzard. Luckily the nearest Dairy Queen is 5000 miles away.

that and garbage plates. I love 'em :o |
I still like McDonalds, particuarly when traveling through airports. I even get Big Macs. :o

Stagg Chilli in a can, with vegemite on toast....Only when I'm hungover, and it sure does the trick!
When I was in HS we used to go on Outward Bound (10 day bushwalking caving rafting abseiling type thing) every year and we had to carry all our food with us so a lot of what we had was canned or dehydrated. My lunch speciality was a Ryvita biscuit with canned tuna, a slice of cheese, creamed corn, no names SPAM and canned beetrot all on top. The degustation of camp menus I would say! |
The 1 food item I can always eat no matter the state of my stomach is McDonald's cheeseburgers.
|
McD Fish O Filet
I do love the McDonald's Fish O Filet sandwich. The McD near me always has them on sale for $1.29 on Fridays, and I'll order 2-3 of them if I have nothing better planned for dinner (or am too lazy to cook.) I remember they were 89 cents when they started the promotion. Before I eat them, I rotate the top bun 360 degrees to more evenly spread out the tartar sauce.:p
|
I put vegemite on corn on the cob.....
|
Spiral Kraft Dinner with ketchup. Not something I have often, maybe twice a year, but I MUST have a box in the house at all times.

Hot Dogs and Beans
I absolutely love hot dogs and beans. The kids liked it, too, when they were little (pre-teen.) I used to use a 3-bean barbeque beans made by Campbell's but I can't get it any more. Bush makes a good barbeque beans. One large can and 4 sliced hot dogs.
I have this indulgence probably less than once every three months or so now. And never if I have to go into the office or be with people the next day. (Although my wife will only banish me to a far-away room.) |
Campbell's Cream of x___x soups are heaven in certain recipes, and I use them guilt free.
I like Lawry's seasoned salt a lot on certain things.

My friends might call me a food snob, but really I'm a gourmand and I cook almost every day. However I do sin:
1) McDonalds vanilla soft serve ice cream and a small order of fries. Salty+Sweet. yum. 2) Nongshim Korean ramen. Those of you who've had this before, you know what I mean... 3) Campbells Cream of Mushroom soup. I don't use this often, but when I'm really really tired and lazy, I can use this for a sauce for almost any dish. Even over plain rice. |
Sometimes for breakfast I take white toast and put peanut butter and scrambled eggs on top. My friends make fun of me for it.

I love stuffing sandwiches with extra Miracle Whip and yellow mustard. Stuffing has to be moist and cold.

I have never done that combo, but I would think it would taste pretty decent. I only use creamy peanut butter though.

I said this in another thread, but...potato chips (any flavor...but NOT tortilla chips/Doritos) and cottage cheese. I get weird looks when I buy a bag of potato chips and a container of cottage cheese.
My other confessions: ...if I'm eating steak and mashed potatoes, A-1 Sauce MUST go on the mashed potatoes AND the steak. ...a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on white bread tastes much better with this wine. |
Tiger Sauce, put it on almost everything. Love the stuff.

All hot cereals (oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, farina) must be lumpy. I love the clumps of cereal.
|
I love PUB GRUB - bangers and mash and all the rest. I always stop in Paddington station in London for some in the pub up the stairs. And even in Las Vegas we have a good british pub with Pub Grub.
|
Once in a blue moon, when at the supermarket, I grab a can of Vienna sausages and consume them before I even get to the car.

Really? That could actually work, if the corn is sweet enough.

My sin is I'm a lazy chef sometimes and will use a store bought side to supplement the meal I've prepared. Examples, just the other day used pineapple fried rice from our local favorite Chinese place to go with our grilled lamb skewers with Korean bul go ki BBQ sauce. Turned out to be an incredible dish.^ I'll also buy Popeye's red beans & rice for our cajun influenced meals. |

A tuna sandwich for breakfast beats pizza for breakfast, IMO.
When I lived in NY, my roommates enjoyed canned kippered herring for breakfast, and of course kippered herring are on the buffet menu in hotels in London. Good breakfast, especially with sliced tomatoes. Once had stufed fish rolls at a hotel breakfast buffet in Cesky Krumlov. A rolled fish of some sort, still with skin on it--I think and hope it was cooked, as it was probably freshwater--stuffed with sauerkraut and onion. We were facing a train ride that day, and I shuddered momentarily at the thought of strangers having to endure our presence after that breakfast. But how many times does one get rolled fish, stuffed with sauerkraut, for breakfast? Fish for breakfast is good. ^ (Well, occasionally--and actually, breakfast is a lot more often something like oatmeal with buttermilk, but whatever--) |
I ***love*** anchovies on my pizza.

My daughter also apparently inherited a form of the gene. She lives in London and also must have a box of Kraft Dinner in the house at all times "for emergency use". She brings back a few boxes every time she returns from a trip home. I'm a fan too...even though I only have the stuff once or twice a year. Also with ketchup...and a couple of drops of tobasco! |
Foods that take you back to childhood... You can't beat a well-fired roll (1) and slice (2) with Irn Bru (3), or a roll (1) and pie (4). Both have arteries hardening faster than you can say "RAI" (5).
Notes for foreigners: (1) a 'morning roll' is a white bread roll, topped with rice flour, and has a uniquely chewy consistency. Many bakers will separate the 'well-fired' (i.e. burnt) ones and sell them on request only, as some people prefer them. Or get them cheap. (2) 'slice' aka 'square sausage' aka 'beef lorne' is a spiced sausage meat, cut into square slices and fried/griddled. You can use potato scones to soak up the grease from cooking. Last time I cooked these, I was wiping fat off the kitchen tiles for a week. (3) 'made in Scotland, from girders'. It's bright orange, caffeinated, heavy in sugar and fizz, tastes a little like bubblegum, is fortified with ammonium ferric citrate, and is the most popular soft drink in Scotland. Peru is the only other place where Coca Cola is not the most popular soft drink - Inca Cola wins and, oddly, tastes almost the same as Irn Bru. Unsurprisingly, the only other foreigners I met in Peru who liked Inca Cola were Scots. (4) 'pie' where I come from means only one thing: minced mutton, mace and nutmeg, in a thin, dense pastry that you could build houses out of. The roll may seem an odd addition, but it's useful to stop the fat dribbling down your chin while you're trying to eat it. (5) the Royal Alexandria Infirmary. Paisley's finest hospital, well used to dealing with the effects of the local cuisine. |
