Do you ever/often eat shrimp with the shells on?

From my days living in Jensen Beach and fishing the Indian River all weekend, live shrimp at the bait shop ran about half the cost of cleaned, raw shrimp at Publix. I was tempted, but never cooked the leftovers.

I think that the shell is the most nutritious part of the shrimp.... so culinary issues left aside, its probably the best way to eat it... ^

I once had a friend who ate the entire shrimp, head and all. I thought he was strange because of that.
There is a Vietnamese sandwich shop that I frequent that has shrimp egg rolls. I used to order (and enjoy) those until I dissected one and found that it contained a whole shrimp! I have never ordered one since.
I think eating the whole shrimp just freaks me out.

I'm very grateful for the person who taught me I could eat shrimp so much more quickly and easily.
Likewise for the person who taught me you don't have to peel kiwi fruit. I used to hate the hassle and bother and now I snack on them all the time.

If boiled/steamed I'll remove the head and pinch off the tail... but fried - sounds good (Think I've done it before- and even with tempura will eat the tail

)In Seattle, I went to a sushi restaurant that served a live shrimp, shell removed from the body, antennas twitching . After you ate the body, the chef deep fried the head and you ate it as well. My wife thought the whole thing barbaric and was likely right, but it was delicious.

I can barely stomach the thought of eating shrimp with all of the junk removed. Reading this thread has just completely cured me of any desire to ever eat shrimp--with or without the head/tail/gastrointestinal tract--ever again.

I was served a full shrimp, head and all, with my seafood risotto dish in Barcelona this week. I tried both the shell and the head and wasn't a fan of either, but thank you to this thread for encouraging me to give it a try!

Shrimp with the shells on cost one of the finalists the victory in the most recent top chef (or at least played a part in the loss). I believe it was Padma who said she could still feel the shell in her throat.

Here in SE Asia we have a dish called Cereal Prawns (which is what we call them here).
Lovely dish of deep fried prawns. Shell is always left on and eaten whole (I tend to remove the head though).
