Do any FTers have special plans for Open That Bottle Night? This year it will be the evening of Saturday, Feb. 27.

The idea of OTBN is that we all have a special bottle of champagne or wine that we have been saving for an undefined "special occasion." In fact, we may have been saving it since Ronald Reagan was president. OTBN is officially declared to be that special occasion, when you can pop the cork on that bottle and celebrate with one or more special friends and loved ones.

Does anybody have something special in the works?

I don't have a bottle, but I do have a Montecristo A that has been burning a hole in my humidor for years (thankfully, not literally).

Might be a good a night as any...

You may get a better discussion in the dining out forum, lots of good wine in there

There's a thread on the top five bottles in your cellar, after the open that bottle night we may have to change it to the top four bottles

Saturday night February 27 is the Jewish holiday of Purim.

Purim is a most appropriate time for opening bottles...but maybe not the special good stuff!

Quote:
The phrase ad lo yada or unable to differentiate, refers to the Purim tradition of drinking until one is unable to tell the difference between evil Haman and good Mordechai.

I've got a 1989 Leoville Barton I was planning on opening. My dad told me he's gonna crack one of his old Burgundies, hopefully something from 1989 or even older. Should be a lot of fun.

I vaguely recall this but it's not a part of the local calendar. Usually we do something similar at wine dinners.

We have one or two '00 top of the line Rosemounts and at least one decent Penfolds 'Bin' from the late 90s, so maybe we can host one of these.

Anyone who will be in Sydney who'd like to join us?

I enjoyed several good Argentine reds in BA during Cow Do.

i recently acquired 7 or 8(forgot which) 6 liter bottles of catena alta malbec and catena alta cab. i am currently trying to find enough friends to open the second one. we did a bottle6 L of the 2002 cab last month. 6L is a lot of red wine, after prosecco, champagne and whites. will open a 2004 catena alta malbec this time. a 6L is 8 regular bottles, 4 magnums, 2 double magnums. lot of wine for even a party of 8.

sort of like facebook, "anyone want to be my friend?"
