Renewed last month. Was offered choice of 1000 points/month for 10 months for charging $150/month or 1000 points/month for 5 months for charging $100.
Elected the former, of course, but wondering still if there is a better deal for heavy spenders.

Here is what I came up with; Called Diners this a.m. and they gave me a retention bonus of 2000 pts per month for 5 months for a total of 10,000 points. All I need to do is use the card once each month for each of the five months. There isn't any minimum amount that must be charge either

Just got off the telephone with "Adam" at Diners Club. He offered the 1000 points per month if you spend >$150. The offer runs for 10 months. I asked if there was a sweeter offer and he stated that there wasn't. He is sending a letter to confirm the bonus program.

good day,
the 5mo/10000 miles and the $150per mo/10mo/10000 miles are standard.
my wife renewed her card this year and was offered 5mo/10000 miles @ no minimum purchase because she used her card pretty heavy.
i renewed my card this year and was offered 10mo/10000 miles @ $150 per mo in purchases because i had just used my card for a single minimal purchase each month.
so, what you will be offered depends on your use of the card.
we both received written letters to confirm all this, and we both were told it was a "one-time bonus" [i.e., nothing if we renew for a 3rd year - we'll see].

I think it all depends on whom you talk to at Diner's. I used my card very heavily, all travel, gas, anywhere I could, and they only offered me the 1000 pts/$150 for 10 months. My wife who did not use her card the same amount as me got the 2000pts/use for 5 months. I called and asked why the discrepancy and they would not switch me over once I had already started my bonus. The customer rep also said that she could not find the bonus that my wife got?????

I've been a DC member for several years and had never heard of the retention bonus until I started using this site a week ago. I just called DC and asked for it - no problem - got the 1000/mo. for minimum of $150 spending per month. Thanks to all who posted this.
A few years ago I challenged Amex to offer me something to stay - like waiving the annual fee. they refused to offer anything. I closed the account.

I just called about the retention bonus and was offered 2k for 5 months for using the card at least once a month, which shouldn't be a problem.
I've been a DC member for three years but had never heard of the retention bonus till I heard about it on FT. Thanks to all!

Ditto to the last two. Larry said the minimum purchase requirement they tie to a retention bonus depends on spending history. If yours shows you've been using the card a good deal, no requirement.
He also said that a month, for this purpose, isn't a billing month or a calendar month. Rather, it starts when you register for the bonus - so, since I registered today, mine runs from the 10th of one month through the 9th of the next. If that matters to you, you might want to schedule your call accordingly.
And thanks to FT for this too - if it weren't for these threads, I would never have heard the magic words "retention bonus!"

Regarding bonuses, I want to make sure I have it right. There is the bonus for initially obtaining the card. Following the first year, one of the two bonuses that have been discussed here may be given, if a retention bonus is requested by the card holder.
Now my real question: after the first two years with the bonuses described above, that's it. In other words, the retention bonus is a one-shot deal, regardless of the amount you may have been charging on the card. Is that correct?
