Looking for help to get to LHR
Hi everyone,
I've been a NW flyer for the last decade or so and am getting ready to take my first delta flight since '96. Me and the Mrs are looking to head to LHR over Labor Day and I have narrowed down my flight options on the outbound as follows:
Option 1: DTW -> JFK -> LHR (on a Delta codeshare (NW) and Delta 1)
or
Option 2: DTW -> ATL -> LHR (Delta on both legs)
Here is my issue, in Option 1 I have about 1 hr 20 min of connection time and Option 2 I have just 1 hour of connection time. My memories of flying through Atlanta are not the greatest, and I have heard that JFK can also be problematic. My inclination is to go through JFK because of the extra connection time, but do you folks have any suggestions?

Unless you need the miles, JFK and the extra few minutes of connection time would be my choice. As bad as the delays are at JFK, I still believe it still quicker to get from the furthest gate to gate at JFK than at ATL (which is important since it is a tight connection). Why not a non-stop from DTW?

I do TATL every two or three months and on an international flight, I just don't personally like less than 2 hours connection time. Too many things can go wrong... Sit back, have a drink and enjoy the extra twenty minutes or so...
