DL 737-800 JFK-PHX and LAX-JFK

Hi All,

I have two upcoming transcontinental flights on Delta. One from JFK-PHX and another from LAX-JFK. I know that about a year ago Delta said that all JFK transcontinental flights would have the AVOD systems. Being that these flights are on the 737s and not on the 757s does the statement apply to these flights? I thought I read that only a very few number of 737s had the systems installed.

Thanks for any input.

Adam

Correct. Only a few (3-5) 738s have been outfitted with AVOD. As a result, chances are rather low that you will find yourself travelling on one of them. The 757s are pretty well along and I haven't been on any JFK transcons that did not feature AVOD.

Was just on 757s OAK-ATL-OAK and neither one had AVOD...I too was under the assumption that as the annoucement was made nearly 2 years ago that all flights over 1800 miles on a 757 would be on x song planes, that it would have the new entertainment system...but alas, that was not the case.

Often, I fly SAN-ATL and ATL-SAN and get 757 without the PTVs. That flight is just over 1800 miles as well. It sucks!

I didn't even know that 737-800s were used for Transcontinental on Delta, thought they were all 757s

Starting soon, the SAN-JFK and JFK-SAN will be on the 737... hopefully with PTVs or there will be a riot! 6 hours on a 737 without PTV would be torture!

So then I am correct in assuming that the 5+ hour flight from JFK to PHX and the 5+ hour flight from LAX to JFK will not have any AVOD in Coach or Business?

I took JFK-PHX yesterday in Business. No AVOD.
Flying PHX-JFK redeye tonight and not expecting it, since I hope I'll sleep.

I only glanced, but for LAX-JFK; flight 78 and flight 410 (red eye) look like ex song 757's according to the seat maps. Unless you're locked in to an arrival time, I'd pick one of those.

On the JFK-PHX trip, the direct flights are on the 737, but you can connect on ex songs.

A LOT of the SJC, OAK, and PHX flights to the east coast seem to be on 738s. Also, a good # of the departures to FL from LAX, as well as the new IAD flight, are 738s. I guess it's better than an MD80...

The surest ways to ascertain whether your transcon 738 has AVOD PTVs are by:

a) looking at the seatmap
b) if your 738 aircraft type is a "738" (non-AVOD) or a "73H" (AVOD)

Seatmap:
AVOD PTV 738- last row of Y is row 33
Non-AVOD PTV 738 - last row of Y is row 32 and there are some gaps in seating on the left side around rows 31 and 32.

Which days and which flights are you travelling on? When the 737 hits JFK-LAX, it will definitely be the AVOD ones already; PHX - depends on which of the two flights you're on and on which dates...

Thaaat's how you tell on the 737... Thanks for the tip. That being the case, it looks like all the LAX-JFK flights are equipped.

Yes, so far, both your JFK-PHX and LAX-JFK flights on those days are scheduled to be operated by "73H" equipment (i.e., with AVOD PTVs and the new slimline Y seats) with the last row of Coach at row 33.

Broadwayboy what flight did you take?

Looking at my seatmap it looks like the JFK-PHX flight 427 on the 25th would have the AVOD.

How accurate is the distinction between 738 and 73H more than 24 hours out?
