AP & MSNBC are reporting U of KY Med Ctr has confirmed 1 survivor in critical condition currently being treated in that facility-no word as to whether it's a M or F, passenger or crew.

This is our greatest fear ...

I flew Comair Friday night ATL-SAT and it was one of the most enjoyable RJ flights I have taken (If that is possible on a RJ ...) specially since we arrived about 25 mins early!

Best of thoughts for the families involved.

Our local news is reporting that the pilot possibly took off from the wrong runway. It was not long enough for takeoff. Horrible news. Lexington, KY is my hometown. I hope no one I knew was on board and no one from this site. My prayers are with all family members of those involved.

Nothing more to report at this time.
I just woke up to it on the news and they showed a picture of a closed Versailles Rd...

My thoughts and prayers with those on-board.

That is a very strange way to title a page in this situation.

It seems there is only one survivor. May God bless all those who were aboard.

Watching channel 36 and they are showing Versailles is now open just using one section of one-way as two way.

They are not reporting anything about using the wrong runway. Did mention that the runway had recently been repaved.

Also reported a temporary morgue has been set up. I believe he said down in Frankfurt which didn't make sense.

What a great tragedy. Our prayers are for everyone involved.

Latest report on WSB in ATL is that someone from the cockpit survived.

The passengers families are in my prayers.

In addition to reports of the wrong runway...

Looked on weather.com, and in the radar loop, there is a line of short, but intense thunderstorms that passes over the area around the time of the accident. That's something that sounds too obvious to be directly involved, but perhaps a secondary factor (delay causing a rush, or rushing to get out before it strikes, etc.).

These are the flights that worry us...

How Sad

This is truly sad indeed. My parents live near the airport and are glued to the television. They haven't heard anything about the wrong runway and are watching CH 36 but did anyone hear what runway they departed on.

Runway 26 is only 3.5K Feet and 22 is 7K.

My heart goes out to all of the families involved. RIP!

CNN has shown some of the coverage from a local station in Lexington and they show emergency equipment near the intersection of Versailles Rd. and Rice Rd.:

http://maps.yahoo.com/beta/#mvt=h&ma...8.041594&mag=2

They appear to show equipment driving south on the small road off of Versailles Rd. to the east of Rice Rd. This leads to an area along the extended centerline of runway 26, which is only 3500 feet long. If they departed from runway 22 (7003 feet) they likely would have had better access to a crash site from other roads.

Here is an airport diagram of LEX:

Not stating as fact that they took off from the wrong runway but this seems to support that theory.
