Does status step down if you don't qualify?
I'm Platinum until Feb 2007, and I doubt I'll be able to qualify for plat again by the end of the year. Gold might even be a stretch -- I've flown a lot less distance this year.
Say I only qualify for silver -- since I was plat this year, will they step me down to gold, or will I only get silver next year? I know some other programs don't drop you down more than one level per year.

Step down? Watch out for that first step, it's a big one.
Next year, you will be whatever you qualify for by 12/31/06. If you earn 49,999 MQM - you'll be a Silver Medallion, although I'm pretty sure you could successfully argue your way to Gold. If you earn 45,000, I can't imagine you being anything but FO.
Once in the past, DL let you down gently. No longer. Now get flying.
