Is it a true codeshare?

I am trying to book a EWR-SAN, LAX-ATL-EWR trip with all non-stops, which I should be able to do with the new alliance. But pricing it out as different airlines brings the price over $1,300. Can I can codeshare the LAX-ATL flight, making it an all Continental trip? Isn't that what codeshare is really about?

Well, I'm hornswaggled.

Anybody who can make sense out of this post, please inform me.

Maybe it's about a CO open-jaw with a DL segment. Very hard to tell. This sort of poster is often very vague about which airline he or she is on.

I DO TRY TO GIVE ADVICE to newbies, even while lecturing them, however unpopular that is with our peanut gallery who couldn't be bothered to give any advice themselves.

But this one leaves me bollixed. Do any of you have any USEFUL advice? Can you tell me me what rhermoso is TRYING TO SAY?

Do you still give advice to cross-posters?

Well, yes, I guess I give advice to cross posters, but ONLY when I'm really tired.

REALLY tired tonight. Thanx.

Lex,

I believe what he is trying to say is that he wants to fly the following itinerary:

EWR-SAN
LAX-ATL
ATL-EWR

I presume that all of these are on separate days, i.e., that there are three distinct legs on the trip.

If he prices it now, in order to get nonstop flights (one of his goals), he has to buy EWR-SAN on CO, then LAX-ATL on DL, then ATL-EWR on either CO or DL. What he is asking, I believe, is whether there is a way to buy a codeshare flight such that the entire trip is on one airline, which ostensibly should cut the price (although with the open jaw involved I doubt that it would).

In other words, if codesharing was in place amongst the members of this new alliance (which it is not yet), he could buy:

EWR-SAN (CO flight number, CO-operated)
LAX-ATL (CO flight number, DL-operated)
ATL-EWR (CO flight number, either DL- or CO-operated)

The simple answer to his question currently is that there is no codesharing yet, so he can't do it. And given the open jaw, even with codesharing, I doubt that he'd ever be able to do it and save any money because the open jaw makes this three one-way legs rather than a circle trip.

Edited to correct spelling.

Thank you Robert Leach.

If it hadn't been 0 dark thirty and I was tired and shouldna been posting, I probably could have figured that out.

Very good answer, too.

The codeshare is coming later, folks. No info on it yet.

Stay tuned.

No code sharing on this route. Well, presumably could have a NW code share but not a CO flight number operated by DL.

You're right. No codesharing on hub-to-hub routes per order of DOT/DOJ.

I think no code shares for any of 'em if it's hub to hub. So, NW would lose the CO codeshare on ATL-EWR once this goes into effect, and never get the DL codeshare.

I think.
