AMX companion ??
I recently booked a reservation on an AMEX companion cert. I just now called and was told I could not upgrade my paid K due to a restriction.
My companion is probably not going to be able to join me, so we're just going to keep the res and she won't show up if she can't travel.
Two questions: Why would I not be able to upgrade my PAID K fare.
And, will I have a problem on departure day traveling without her?
Any advice is appreciated.

Probably some wording that the companion needs to be on the same flight and cabin as the paid ticket. Furthermore, if they were to allow you to upgrade to V, then they would need to separate your record from your companion's.
You should not have a problem if she can't make the flight, but I would suggest giving DL as much advance warning as you can as a courtesy.

I thought you had to be in the same fare class to be in the same itinerary?
Let's say the paying pax is on a K ticket, wouldn't the companion be in a different fare class (as not to trigger awarding miles? Perhaps E class?
In any event, can't hurt to try again at the airport for the upgrade.

If you read previous threads about the companion certificate you'll see that 'misbooking' seems to be common. I remember one post from Spring 2001 where the poster said that not only was his wife (companion) able to be upgraded, but that she also received miles for her flight, and to boot, double base miles because it was during the promo.
Almost sounds like the 2nd ticket is booked in a paying fare class, which you'd think with the computers should be allowed.

Based on that you're companion is in K, you might be in luck!
The previous post which says someone in a similar circumstance earned miles - clearly an error in the system - bodes well for you.
Now that your companion is on an upgradeable fare, perhaps you can try to upgrade them, too!
