LCC carriers name.... "Song"?
It appears that Joe Brancatelli might have stumbled across the new name for the low cost carrier.
Song.

"You already know about Delta Air Lines' ludicrous plan to launch a new low-fare subsidiary to replace its failed Delta Express service. But do you know what they are going to call the airline? Believe it or not, the name is "Song." Honest, you can't make up stuff like that. Delta executives vehemently deny that they have chosen "Song" as the airline's moniker, of course, but a little checking around the Internet domain name registry reveals an unmistakable trail. The URLs songair.com and songairlines.com have both been registered in recent weeks and the domain servers are listed as yr.com, which is Young & Rubicam, one of Delta's advertising agencies. One more bit of Delta brilliance: The new carrier's slogan apparently will be "Fly for a Song." The URL flyforasong.com was registered at the same time as the others and its domain server is also listed as yr.com."

Delta's New carrier called Song
Did everyone see Joe brancatelli's Tactical Traveler (http://www.tacticaltravel.com) column today? He outs the name of Delta's new low-fare carrier. It's Song. Joe found out by tracing back the URL registrations and found out Delta forgot to cover its tracks with its ad agency. You know, I'm beginning to think the airlines really are as dumb as Joe says they are!

Of course Joe fails to mention that Y&R also represent many other companies that are involved in both flying and singing.
While it sounds believeable... I hope it isn't.

Joe is barking up the wrong tree here, as he is wont to do pretty often nowadays.
Whereas Y&R may have done work for DAL in the past, Fred Reid was very clear that Leo Burnett is handling the account for the LCC. If anything, this proves that "SONG" will NOT be the name of the new carrier.
Sorry.

Song may not be the new name, but nothing is proved by Fred Reid utterances on ad agency work. Sub-contracting isn't unknown and Y&R could be pitching for some of it. The LCC conference call was a waste of time.

Delta's new discount carrier name: Song?
From ClarkHoward's e-scapes newsletter:
• Here's one of the breaking travel industry new stories you can find at Joe Sent Me (register free): You already know about Delta Air Lines' ludicrous plan to launch a new low-fare subsidiary to replace its failed Delta Express service. Perhaps it's supposed to be Bong, thus paying homage to the device that helped them think up the latest changes to the SkyMiles program...

On a flight last week to LAS a FA said she heard the name was going to be "Fresh Air"
(seriously). I have no idea what her source was or the accuracy of it.

Well, Air LaCanada has "Jazz" and "Tango" -- "hip-hop" is rumored to be next.
In our family, we are using the code "Elsie" (as in "moo") for the new Delta LCC. A "neat" name (crossword puzzle fans will get it -- think neatsfoot oil).
And, despite Clark Howard, Delta Express has not "failed"; it is being superseded. Delta learned a lot from that experiment and should do well on routes which will support a jam-packed 757. Ugh.

"Service" should be a noun, not a verb.
