Safe to book on DL

A few people have asked me if I have flights on DL and if I am making alternative plans.

With financial problems, the talk of a strike must be killing DL. I can not imagine anyone making reservations on DL at this point in time knowing a strike may happen.

The question now is, should I do the safety play and book duplicate flights on another airlines for Thanksgiving weekend.

Anyone have any thoughts (and I don't want to hear how DL is the best airlines and I am crying wolf...)

I wouldn't book on DL until the pilot talks stop - but in a few days the point may be moot. I hope not though.

Some of us really think this won't happen.

I hope you are right. If DL does not think it wont happen, they sure are not doing much to reassure us....

Based on your post you haven't booked any flights yet for the "busiest" travel weekend of the year? [FWIW, the cheapest DL tickets to my city pairs for Thanksgiving is $994.00RT for Y. I paid $839.90RT for First!] Anyways...while neither here nor there, if you want to be "safe," buy refundable tickets and cancel one at the last minute. I have three reservations Nov/Dec/Jan but I'm not making any alternatives. They are booked in F so I'll cancel and get a refund I suppose if there is striking.

I was not clear, sorry, I have a ticket, I think it is "L" for Europe. It is a quick back and forth trip... The fare was around $600. UA now has the same fare for around $450. By the way, the UA fare was $575 a few days ago, they lowered it. I wonder if they lowered the fare to help make sure people do not book on DL?

MY DH does not fly for Delta. But on the airline boards on which I am a member, the sentiment is to walk (not just of the posters, but of polling the pilot group).

The pilots are not going to walk.

The pilots who post on the message boards are not representative of the rank and file at all. They are the hardest core and most militant. If there is a strike vote it will fail miserably.

Delta pilots like their jobs and will take the pay cut.

oh and FWIW, I'm not booking Delta right now. too many other cheap options and I'm afraid they might fail for other reasons.

Those pilots who want to walk should do so...and keep walking right on over to their local unemployment office. Let the pilots who love their jobs and who want to see DL survive and move forward get down to the business of returning their employer to profitability. It will be sad beyond words if unionized labor is allowed to put the nail in Delta's coffin.

I am not booking on them anymore especially with the "Selective Cancellation" policy that seems to be in place now.

My only question is why you booked a ticket on DL in the first place? You've made it pretty clear that you hate DL and think DL's product is the worst. So why would you buy a ticket on DL? Seems kind of ridiculous.

I know of 2 large companies who are not booking trips on Delta until this settles down.

Yep, I am sorry I came back for another try. After the next trip end of this month, DL is on the never list unless I am fleeing for my life and they are the option for a fast exit. Self destruct at DL has been as successfull as SGB driving away the loyalest customers.

I have made it very clear that from time to time DL makes the most sense to fly on. I do not take into account FF program any more, I look at all the other things and make my decision. At the time, DL was the best all around deal for the flight. Had I known a strike could come into the fold during my trip, I would not have made the reservations with DL.

I still think DL's product is the worst, and those that defend DL get what they deserve, poor product and no assurity they will be on the flight they paid for. I decided that for this flight I would be happy to have my legs in my chest and save some $. Big mistake on my part, although I am hoping I get there and DL does not go on strike. A few months notice from the pilots, and I would support their efforts to go on strike. Less then two weeks notice, and no offical warning to PAX....
