Wow. Did you buy your buddy pass on Craigslist or Ebay by chance? If so PM me your confirmation number; I'll evaluate your chances of getting an upgrade.

an idea about costs..

Hi, I have had a potential family emergency and may utilize my brothers buddy passes on Delta to fly either from BNA to DUB or London depending on availability and cost. I am very familiar with non rev'ing..have done it alot as the daughter of a TWA pilot and now as I said, the sister of a Delta one. I respect all the rules and regs and I am acutely aware of the drawbacks..sadly in this case, I may just have no other choice. I am unable to reach him right now due to his work schedule, so I was hoping someone could price it for me if they have access to Travelnet? approx dates would be dept sept 28-return oct 10(i am somewhat flexible within a 2 or 3 day window on departure..return is completely flexible.) thanks in advance to all. please PM me this info if it is a matter of security or whatever..thanks.

Buddy Passes: The Definitive Thread

Buddy passes are ver hard to use during holidays summer and Christmas time I have been stranded in Dubai for few days before I flew in coach in a middle seat and paid $ 700 for the rt ticket while could have still bought same in coach for $ 1200 and earned 16000 MQM and 32000 RDM so not a good option to use buddy pass unless in last minute emergency

Wife and I have the opportunity to fly roundtrip JFK->MEX in mid-late October via two buddy passes. We're told the flights look "excellent" - many empty seats but enough booked that the flights won't be canceled. Traveling on our selected flights isn't a matter of life & death - in which case we'd buy confirmed seats - but still, it'd be unfortunate to miss a day or major fraction thereof. Is there any way to (roughly) quantify our chances of making these flights, as in 99%, 95%, 80%?

Thanks a million!

We have 2 buddy passes thanks to my sister who works for delta. We are planning a trip to Munich and everything looks good. Lets say we want to stop over in Amsterdam and then take the flight back to Atlanta. How hard is it to do that stopover flight in ams. Is there extra costs involved? What would be the procedure? There is a 7am flight to ams brith an 8 hour layover we would love to take.
Thanks Scott in South Carolina

Buddy Pass Questions

Hi Fellow Flyers,
We have 2 buddy passes thanks to my dear sister who works for Delta. We are planning a trip to Munich from Atlanta and everything looks good as far as seats etc. My question is about making a change on my return flight (MUC to ATL). Let's say we want to stop over in Amsterdam and then take the flight back to Atlanta. How hard is it to change our direct flight to get that stopover flight in AMS? Are there extra costs involved in making this change? What would be the procedure? Do I inquire at the Delta counter the day prior? Any other info would be greatly appreciated. The flight I would like to take is the 7am flight MUC to AMS with a 7 hour 50 min layover, then the AMS to ATL departing at 4:40 pm. That would be a great city to visit on our return home. And I know about space availability and other details, we have lots of extra time. I am just inquiring about how to make that change, or do I try and book it that way at the beginning?
Thank you all and Happy Holidays.

You can confirm w your sister but IIRC buddy passes are only good for travel on Delta, not on codeshare carriers. If I understand your plans correctly, you would have to make other travel arrangements between Munich & Amsterdam unless there's a flight on Delta metal. But you should be able to list for ATL-MUC then AMS-ATL on one pass if that's what your asking (with GSP on either end if needed).

P.S. Your new thread on the same subject isn't necessary. :)

To the best of my knowledge, that would not be possible. I believe DL buddy passes are only good on DL metal. MUC-AMS or vice-versa would be KL or LH and so you couldn't use a buddy pass on it.

How does pass travel to South America (particularly LIM or SCL) fare in the July to August timeframe?

My guess is you wait in the airport for up to a week and eventually get on a flight.

I know someone who missed 3 or 4 days of work due to no availability getting home.

We have nonrev'd ATL- SCL a few times in August with no problem. A friend using a buddy pass once didn't clear his first flight, check-in agent said it was due to heavy cargo/weight & balance. He got on the next day. Of course our experience over the last 6 years is not necessarily a predictor of your experience this year.

Once you're closer to your travel dates the person providing your pass can look at flight loads to help you make a decision, too early to tell at this point.

No experience w LIM.

Is it possible for me to determine if there are enough seats on the airplane before I go hang out at the airport and hope to get to Japan (or back to work at the other end of the trip)?

Any advice is appreciated!

Not to sound mean but you are dreaming!!! Even before you book on regular non-rev with S3 Priority they wanr you about going over seas specialy to Japan on a holiday.

Unless your rich and can afford a last minute tickets I would not take chance. I saw a poor guy get stuck in Norita with 3 kids and almost broke down to tears when they told him it was just not going to happen.

If you really have your heart set on going CHECK THE LOADS and be ready to abandone plans at the last minute if they get heavy.

I guess my advice is to be Flexible. One time we were on our way to Hawaii and ended up in San Juan PR. I learned that when traveling on my GF benefits we need to be flexible.

I saw a grown man pleade and beg the GA to let him on the flight with his kids. He could not afford to get back from Norita paying for a ticket.

It's a terrible feeling..... I have only been stuck in Mexico once and that was with an S3 status.
