Thanks in advance

If by late Nov/early Dec you're looking at dates around (U.S.) Thanksgiving, have your friend check buddy pass embargo dates closely (embargo impacts any buddy pass travel, not just your specified route). As said, on a payload optimized route, the pax load factor may be irrelevant to your chances of being cleared.

About $838. Note JNB is a risky destination for BP riders as flights go out with open seats quite often to due to full cargo flights.

How do BP riders not on FT get this info, from the employee who gave them the BP? Just curious.

Welcome to FT, kakharwa.

Welcome to FT: your first post after over two years.

Ill never understand why people ask on FT and not the employee sponsoring the pass.

Perhaps they're trying to use Craig's List, eBay, or some other means?

Because the employee giving them the pass is not a friend, otherwise they would not let them spend $800 to get stuck halfway around the world for several days.

I'd advise AGAINST using a buddy pass on this route, or really at all and particularly during the summer months unless you have an employee with you or are experiences with NRSA travel. You will be the bottom of the barrel of the non-revs attempting to get on a flight that is routinely full or even oversold, not to mention often "payload optimized", or weight restricted. I don't know how much tickets would cost on this route in particular, but buying a cheap economy one might not be too terribly much more than the pass and is definitely the better way to go.

Yes. Employees can look up buddy pass fares.

I flew to JNB last fall from SLC through ATL for $100 more than that buddy pass price and that flight included a 3 day stopover in AMS.

I wouldn't give a buddy pass out in summer regardless unless the flights were wide open. Or I'd be the next jetblue sob story on how some family got stranded on a buddy pass for days. Winter they might work out a lot better on an open int'l flight but for the summer time...good luck.

I'll never understand why people post responses such as this on FT and not just skip over the thread without responding :D

+1

I'm afraid of pass travel on this route.
