Israel's Transport Ministry said on Wednesday it signed a new aviation code-sharing deal with the United States that will boost the number of destinations for national carrier El Al Israel Airlines.

Under the first major aviation agreement between Israel and the U.S. since 1976, El Al [ELAL.UL] will be able to fly to numerous U.S. destinations via Delta Airlines (NYSE http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gifAL - news)

Delta to Codeshare on El Al Flights Between New York and Tel Aviv

Delta Air Lines and El Al Israel Airlines today announced Delta will begin codesharing on El Al flights between New York and Tel Aviv beginning Oct. 28, 2001.

Delta customers will be able to purchase seats on El Al's Boeing 747, 767 and 777 services between New York (JFK & Newark) and Tel Aviv. Members of Delta's SkyMiles frequent flyer program will earn mileage credit when traveling on Delta's codeshare flights with El Al.

The codeshare will apply at first to El Al's flights from JFK and Newark to Tel Aviv, and later on from El Al's flight from Los Angeles, O'Hare, and Miami to TLV. There is a rumour that the DL codeshare might mean that El Al's Miami flights will go via/originate in Atlanta instead of via JFK like it does now (most likely routed TLV-ATL-MIA-TLV, maybe TLV-ATL-MIA-ATL-TLV, or TLV-MIA-ATL-MIA-TLV).

Thanks. Are those non-stop flights, or do they stop somewhere in Europe on the way to Tel Aviv?

Earning SkyMiles When Flying El Al Israel Airlines (the rules)

I noticed that delta.com does now list El Al Israel Airlines as a SkyMiles partner, but on the "Earning Mileage" page of delta.com its not there yet; so here are the rules:

· No credit for travel prior to June 1, 2002

· No credit for travel on El Al code share flights operated by other carriers.

· Flights booked in K, H, V, N, T, L, U, G and E classes of service are considered discounted economy and are eligible for credit at 50% of actual mileage.

I'm only here trying to shed light on DL issues brought up on this board. I do work for Delta, but I don't represent DL's final word when answering a question. Please e-mail Customer Care for absolute answers. www.delta.com/email

I flew to TLV in late February and at the time was told (by DL) that base miles would accrue if the ticket was bought through DL. Given the $400 premium for doing so I ended up flying UA/LH.

Does the 6/1 date now allow you to buy the ticket from ELAL directly and accrue base DL miles?

LAOCA Jun 7, 2002 1:40 pm

Delta ticket and flight number only for base miles.
