Does Linking Reservation Allow Preferred Seating?

I am GM, travelling with wife who is a general member.

I called and got the reservations linked for upgrade purposes (at least I think they were linked, there is no written confirmation of the linking.)

I have access to preferred seats for myself, but if I go into the wife's reservation it charged for preferred seats.

Does the linking of the reservations allow the general member to get a preferred seat for free? It would if we were in the same reservation, does it also with a linked reservation if I call in?

Not sure if it has changed. For preferred seating, you used to be able to call in and they could give ONE PERSON preferred seats (not on your reservation). That does not work for upgrades to Comfort Plus. Call Delta and they will tell you if that is still the case. (You are unable to do it online)

There is no such thing as linking reservations. I wish we could get rid of this misunderstanding. Separately ticketed records are forever separate-all that you're referring to is a manual notation in the PNR to "reference" the other reservation. Thats why you still have to call.

The Delta reservationist used the term "linked".

It's got to be more than a manual notation - if it is only a manual notation, that would mean that the gate agent would have to read the remarks in every reservation to figure out who to put on the upgrade list as a travelling companion in a separate reservation from an elite.

Delta also uses the term linked: "If you and your companion are on different reservations that have been linked, upgrades to First Class and Delta Comfort+, domestic Delta Premium Select and domestic Delta One work a little differently,) https://www.delta.com/us/en/skymiles...%20differently

To answer your question, they have always allowed me to move my spouse on another itinerary to a preferred seat at no cost. But I have always had to call.
