Before NW was absorbed by DL, NW used E for all its BOS flights, domestic as well as international. I flew on them frequently, mostly DCA-BOS, though also on other routes, and found arriving and departing very convenient. Terminal E is of course larger and busier now, but I would still expect it to be less crowded than A, at least at most times of day.

It goes all the way around! I took it the other day. Great views as you go, but taxiing aircraft can cause it to stop quite frequently.

I flew CDG-BOS-MSP on DL flights on two separate tickets about three weeks ago; like you, I had a very long layover (6 hours IIRC). My luggage was checked only to Boston (I didn’t try to check it all the way through at CDG). The Delta staff in Terminal E were quite willing to check my bag on to MSP. However I wanted to SDC to an earlier flight, was having trouble doing it on the Delta app, and didn’t want to end up with my bag on a later flight than I took. So I took my bag to Terminal A, secured the SDC, and then checked the bag.

I also had a 6 hour layover on my outbound trip and spent several hours in the SkyClub in Terminal E. When I checked in the staff told me (without my asking) that I could stay longer than the 3-hour limit since the club wasn’t very busy at the time.

If I land in E on an Emirates flight but then catch a DL flight out of A, can I check my bag in at the DL counter in E, then walk to A?

Ugh sorry… I thought this was the ATL thread.

If your flights are on the same ticket, you can drop your bag off right after clearing immigration and customs in E and then walk to A. No need to go to DL's check-in desk. You could also take the free shuttle bus route that circulates among the terminals without going to the T station; on this route A is the first stop after E.

The construction at e is getting to be more and more disruptive, i usually take the morning flight to lhr so it isn’t horrible but took an evening flight last week and getting to the terminal is a challenge , the road is blocked for construction about halfway down the terminal, so no place for cars to pull over and just one lane to get thru on at the point the construction starts. All this is to say walking is probably your best bet

Most efficient way to go from A to E

I have am upcoming flight from MSP to FCO in D1 connecting in BOS and am looking forward to using the D1 lounge in BOS. As far as I can tell we'll arrive in Terminal A and depart from E. We have a little over 2 hour transfer time, but I'd like to have an unrushed meal and spend as much time as possible in the D1 lounge. In light of that:
  • What's the most efficient way to get from Terminal A to E?
  • Is the shuttle the only way to stay airside? Reading this thread, it seems like the shuttle is relatively unreliable, and yet I'd like to avoid going through security again if possible.
  • Is there any way to walk from A to E and stay airside?
  • If we do end up going through security again, any tips to make it efficient at Terminal E? We have Clear and Pre-check as well as Sky Priority. We arrive at around 2:00pm on a Wednesday if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

First off, I hope you an awesome vacation! I go between A and E and back to A often to use the Delta One Lounge. To answer your questions, there is currently no physical airside connector between Terminal A and E. An airside connector between terminal A to B (which is connected to E through C) is currently in planning, and hopefully construction will begin soon, but right now the shuttle is your only airside option. The shuttle is relatively easy. I would recommend it over re-clearing security. If you do want to head to E land-side, just take the elevated walkway up the escalator on the left when you exit the secure area. I timed the walk, without security, and it was about 12-15 minutes at a leisurely pace. Terminal E security has both Clear and Pre-Check.

You don’t mention when your trip is, if it is soon you should know that there is runway work going on in Boston so most days there have been significant delays getting into Boston in the afternoons, the work started sept 1 and was scheduled for 75 days. But right now it can be challenging. I would say that with two hours you aren’t going to end up with much time in the end. Going between a and e I would stick with the airside shuttle. Security at e can be long, clear will be your best bet on the security line. You can’t walk airside a to e they are still working on that

FYI, there is also a free shuttle outside security that serves A and E. To do this, be sure to take the route that serves all terminals (clearly marked on the bus).

sc001 and tennessetom thank you for your quick responses. Our trip is about 10 days away so I guess we have to deal with the possibility of a flight delay coming into Boston. Based on your recommendations, I think we'll be taking the shuttle and hope we have enough time for at least a quick visit to the D1 lounge.

Is there anything special I need to know about the shuttle? Is the pick-up spot at Terminal A easy to find and is the shuttle itself clearly marked? And is there only one drop-off spot at Terminal E?

Sorry for these basic questions, but I hope to keep our connection as stress-free as possible.

Happy to help! The pickup spot is in the middle of the satellite concourse (gates A13-A21), which will either be very convenient if your inbound flight pulls into that concourse, or it will be about a 5-7 min walk under the tunnel from A1-A12. You’ll have to take the elevator to the apron level of the satellite concourse and board the shuttle there. There are lots of signs and Delta employees to help. Only one drop off spot at E and it’s close to the Delta One Lounge.

Sorry but I think I'm confusing myself here: is there only one shuttle or is there more than one option? Some shuttles don't go to all terminals so I need to make sure the shuttle I select will connect to Terminal E (or makes stops at all terminasl)?

Thanks! That's very helpful. Is the shuttle marked as a Delta shuttle though or is it some other designation?
