Always interesting to see an airline outside FT then the opinion inside FT.
In non-FT circles, DL is the king of North American Airlines showing the best revenue and profitability. It has claimed 2 new hubs taking out (the place of?) the incumbent in BOS and making a serious dent to AS in SEA during the Pandemic. Their business model is very different to the others with their MRO operations, owning their fuel refinery, in house IFE… basically staying on course to build this machine and never meandering to short term trends. Didn’t they just write their employees a $1.4B bonus check this winter? Then there’s FT where Bastien is the Devil and should get fired because the airline can’t do anything right, their FFP is the worst, and they hate their frequent flyers. Y’all crack me up. |

Hertz? That's one of the worst rental car companies...not sure how that qualifies one to be the CEO of one of the World's largest airlines. Unless there's a joke I'm missing here.
He's partially an academic - has some really good ideas like "virtual hubs" or "virtual network". In other news, Delta is under investigation by the DOT. Should be fun Pete vs. Ed. |

Respectfully, completely disagree. The service I encountered today was extremely rude and disrespectful and I didn't even say anything.
I handed him my ID and he just says you know this flight is canceled, looking at me indignantly, like why did I show up I should know better. All I said was yes, you canceled it as I was walking into the airport. He said there is nothing I can do try calling customer service. At least feign some empathy since you gave me no notice. |
People have very short-term memories, so most of the flying public will quickly forget about this when the next airline meltdown happens. The only reason EB would be fired is if this damages employee morale so much that through a combination of less motivation and turnover, operations continue to suffer and the only way to fix morale is symbolic change at the top.
Personally, I have never liked EB and wish he was gone a long time ago. I will never forget after RA made such strides to improve meals, and EB reversed those changes and the FA hands me a meal on a flight from SEA-HNL (I was in 1A or 1B so was first to receive a meal on that flight), looks at it in disgust and says "I am sorry DL has become so cheap." |

Hold your horses, cowboy. Delta is under investigation for failing to make good on their customer support pledges. Remember, a few years ago there was a threat to impose customer service standards on the airlines. In a flash they came up with customer service standards, probably hoping that it would be one of those paper exercises. Now Pete is checking on them and holding them to those pledges.

Yep, all those people who were NEVER going to fly SWA are booking flights on SW right now. At least some of the "I am never flying DL again" rants are from posters who have said that several times but keep showing up. As for DL employees being rude at this point they are probably just exhausted and tired of being abused. During my 12 hour delay I got to watch a couple of adults who apparently have the emotional intelligence of toddlers scream and abuse staff as if they had personally broken the computer system. |

exit in any direction
Ed, if you are reading, feel free to exit stage, but don't restrict yourself to just to the left. Exit left, right, front, down, or up a cable.

Investigation
I just saw on the Interwebs, "Demands for Delta Investigation over IT meltdown" So I'm sure a fine is forthcoming and maybe Ed will have to drag himself to testify in front of one or both of the Transportaion Sub-Committies in Congress. I'm also guessing a $5k sky peso gift to all affected customers from Corporate customer care. Can you even get one of them fancy premuim sky club drinks for 5k sky pesos?

I'm in the camp of those who think the CIO is the primary person responsible. Choosing to use 3rd party products for critical systems without funding appropriate redundancy or recovery is unacceptable. Even if the rest of the DL environment are asking IT only for new shiny things, the CIO is responsible for getting infrastructure in place.

National had no cars. Hertz had a lovely selection. Today Hertz was the only reason I got to my destination. I'm not usually a Hertz fan, but they earned a point in my book today. |
On day #5 and Ed is still has not made a public facing appearance or apology. Delta news hub is still pointing the finger 🫵 at CrowdStrike, pathetic. Maybe Ed is filming the new safety video for his next job as a Hollywood actor? Investor Day will be very interesting this year. 🍿
