Frontier Throwing Down the Gauntlet in CLE
Frontier recently announced that they are opening a crew base at CLE, and hope to have 500 employees attached to it.
With particular effect to Delta, Frontier has announced four non-stops per week CLE-MSP and return, and service starting May 16 CLE-SLC and return. Frontier has also announced non-stop service CLE-AUS starting on May 16.
Sun Country announced that they would fly the CLE-MSP route three times per week, on the days that are dark on Frontier.
Delta has already upgauged its 0705 departure CLE-MSP to a B739 from a CR9. Will Delta now reinstate its daily roundtrip CLE-SLC? Come on. Ed.

IMO, SunCountry was more of a threat before they changed ownership and became a LCC/ULCC. They had a reputation for pleasant flights and good service before that. A more recent well-publicized incident---involving cancelling the last flight of the season to/from at least one beach destination (IIRC in Mexico) and stranding customers, forcing them to extend their stays and purchase expensive tickets on another carrier to come home)--really hurt their reputation

F9 is so here today, gone tomorrow in their route/network that its a non-issue. They aren't competing for the same customers, and they are just looking for spillover to capture wherever they can.
Will be surprised if any of these are still around 6 month from now.

Hehe, Apparently, Delta is quite happy to take Frontier's spillover too. Let me introduce you to Basic Economy.

Frontier matched my DL Diamond status this year to their Diamond status. Cancelled a DL flight to take a $39 flight DEN ATL a couple weeks ago. Was pleasantly surprised. My wife and I had all Row 1 to ourselves (no one in middle seat) No extra fees as one of their Diamonds for anything. We brought some food to eat onboard and it was a fine flight that just so happened to be at a convenient time. I was expecting the worst, but it was fine. If they happen to have a nonstop at the right time, I would do it again. The savings is quite worth it on short flights, where DL tries to price gouge.

DL is flying a bit to close to the sun in 2024 with their pricing on many routes. I guess its ok if you are on OPM for a big faceless Fortune 50 expense account but for the rest of us the competition is pricing out way better.

NEWSFLASH!! There are fewer and fewer fatcat corporate travelers out there flush with OPM with each passing year. Look at all the major corporations that now make their employees fly COACH on long international business trips -that used to not be the case as much. I wouldn't be pinning my business success on juicy corporate travel margins (as was the norm for decades..) if I were them...
