e certificate

I have an ecertificate that expires at the end of the year. Do I need to book and use the ticket by hte end of the year, or is booking now for a flight next summer allowed?

E cert has to be redeemed by the expiration date but can be for travel beyond that. One caution tho, if you voluntarily cancel the reservation after the original expiration date, you are most likely not getting the value back.

You need to book a flight by 12/31/23 but you may travel anytime prior to 330 days after 12/31/23 (November 2024) but your ticket wont be changeable after 12/31/23 so it becomes a use-it-or-lose-it.

But if you are shrewd and book something very far in advance there will likely be a schedule change which will likely result in you being able to make changes.

Note that this was part of ongoing series of DL credit extensions. Normally, with credits from DL domestic fares, all travel must be completed within one year of date of ticket issue.

I seem to recall the pre-covid rules domestic had to be booked and flown within the year but international had to be rebooked within the year but flown within 330 days after the one year expiry. So book a dummy international flight 330 days out until you decide what your final plans are.

For international fares, travel must at least commence within 1 year of issue date, but then you have a year from when you commence it to complete it.
