Changing A>B>A roundtrip to A>C>D>A

I have a weekend leisure trip to CT booked from as-BDL-ATL. I now need to do a work trip to Seattle earlier that week, Instead of returning to ATL. I am now planning to fly ATL>SEA>JFK>ground/amtrak>BDL>ATL.

Would I be better off cancelling and rebooking this as one muti-segment trip, or instead booking ATL>SEA>JFK and cancelling the ATL>BDL segment of the existing trip (if that is possible).
Thanks

You wont know until you try to change the ticket.

I had an ATL-SEA-ATL that I changed to ATL-SEA-ORD-(LGA)-BDL-ATL for something like $150 back in June.
