Unlikely to have anything at the gate, but you *might* get an offer to upgrade at check in online. Also very possible that J will be full.

Check the app. Calling in usually means you're asked for the fare difference between what you paid and the current price of a premium cabin ticket.

Calling is not going to get you a FCM offer, it's going to get you a new fare pricing. The app or online is your best bet for a FCM. By the time you get to the gate, they are most likely not going to entertain the idea at all - and if you can talk them into selling you a seat in J, it's going to be a reprice.
