All but 2 flights in the last month have been on refurbished aircraft, so the odds are definitely in your favour that you'll be on one! Check flightradar24.com a few days ahead of your flight, and then compare the reg with the WiKi above.

My challenge is getting them to sell me a seat. Diamond desk yesterday said they couldn't figure out how after calling another group and to "I dunno, try again later". Work will pay for a PE seat, I'd rather not burn a GUC getting to Delta One if I can just take PS on their dime.

The aircraft probably won't be assigned until T-60 hours, so DL won't be willing to sell you a PS seat until then, depending on the cabin config on the assigned aircraft.

Keep in mind that with the devaluation of GUCs, then using one in Main Cabin or C+ would only directly upgrade you into PS and would only waitlist you for D1

This is exactly my concern dropping GUCs onto the waitlist and ending up having them only clear to PS when Delta opens that space and then end up missing D1.

Just to clarify, with the GUC changes that went into effect Feb 1st, if you purchase main cabin/C+, then prior to day of travel you can _only_ clear as far as PS. However, even if you have cleared into PS with a GUC, you will still be eligible for a further upgrade to D1 (using the same GUC that was already used to clear into PS), just that it won't happen until day of travel (and probably not until the gate).

So, you won't miss out on D1 if it is still available come flight time (and subject to the waitlist order etc). However, if you fail to clear into D1 on day of travel, the GUC is still consumed if you cleared into PS.

If you want to be sure of D1, then you buy into PS, and upgrade immediately into D1 with your GUC [strike (RUC).]

Edit: Oh, I see the concern...

You won't clear into D1 with an RUC on an International flight...you can only use a GUC!
