Completely agree. Some flights out of ATL have 60+ people on the upgrade lists and even 360s don't always clear.

Let's not forget that there are lifetime UA GS members, IIRC 4MM. [DL doesn't even offer "lifetime" DM status regardless of how many MM a customer has earned.] Some on FT earned this primarily through manufactured spending, although IIRC spending on UA credit cards no longer counts for MM status. This alone makes me suspect that there are lots more GSs than 360s, although there seems to be some anecdotal evidence here on FT of GS having somewhat lower annual spending requirements, for otherwise equivalent hub versus non-hub customers.

DL doesn't differentiate check in lines beyond SkyPriority (GM+ or premium cabin ticket).

Only 60? Pre-COVID, lists over 100 were common ex-SFO or ORD on UA. You'd regularly see lists over 60 on a 738.

As noted already, it was virtually impossible to upgrade on hub-to-hubs or any relatively popular routes. SFO was an upgrade desert for 1Ks. It's really hard to overstate how meaningless the status had become in terms of domestic upgrades for hub-based flyers.
