Full credit for this idea goes to whomever did this when UA copied DL's FF changes a few years ago. I got a huge loller out of that.

This is one of the better days as a consumer from both a leisure and business travel standpoint. I have paid a lot of these fees over the years, and my employer has too.

One thing I noticed off the bat is that AA included Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. However, AA also has this statement: "Effective Jan. 1, 2021, Basic Economy tickets will no longer earn elite qualifying dollars, miles or segments toward future status." It will be interesting to see if DL/UA follow.

At the risk of being a cynic, I know that the airlines are saying "permanently," but given that they've been extending the change fee waiver since March anyway, and they can of course reinstate them at any time, isn't this probably more just lip service to solidify an existing practice than anything else? I feel like as soon as demand picks back up and consumers are more price inelastic, they won't hesitate to reimplement them.
