That's my checked luggage waiting to be loaded. I tried to carry on the grill but they said there wasn't space in the bins so they checked it in for free at the gate ;).

But you are aware it will be checked to your final destination, so hold on to your pink tag and make other plans to eat during your 3-hour layover.

Would hope there's not a propane tank behind those grill doors. If so that would seem to be a bigtime safety violation and issue.

I'd consider reporting that to DL/PHX airport authorities because if there is a propane tank in that grill a number of things could transpire -- all of which have bad endings.

Wow, it's not enough to have your job on the line, reduced hours, etc., now we want to begrudge them a once a year burger flipped from the VP?

Understand the safety issues.......it's not like the air is not already full of jet fuel. Propane is much worse - he he

Aren't those little tugs, the ones that pull the luggage carts, aren't a lot of those run off propone? I think its cool they have a grill. and builds comradery.

To the OP,
I'm DL Plat and PHX based, but it's been a month & half since I've been thru that terminal. So I'm clueless as to what outlets might still be open in the terminal, but I'd bet it's limited.

Having been thru terminals E and F at PHX many times in the last month, flying Alaska, and having time to waste. The only thing open in F is Shake Shack and they close around 6pm. Starbucks is open between E&F, and E has a Breakfast place open in the morning till mid afternoon (I think called Scramble). Plus a Hudson News type of place open in both E and F.

oh and BTW those new terminals are gorgeous. Wish the Skyclub was open to see what that was like.

Sky Harbor has had grills down on the tarmac of both north and south sides of Terminal 4, FedEx has one outside their pier, and then there is this one at Terminal 3.

I also recall seeing (and smelling) the UA guys grilling at Terminal 2, which was a ground-level terminal. Grilling is apparently quite popular at the Phoenix airport.

Man, I wish. I’d be all about a PDHD (Pre-Departure Hot Dog) if offered!

BBQ's on ramps are nearly ubiquitous. Not sure what the OP is so worked up about.

He is upset that he wasn’t invited!

OP never seen one of these before? I have pulled into a gate in ATL couple years back when the grilling was going and on fully visible out the window adjacent to our arrival gate. Someone was grilling and lots of crew standing around. Some of the participants had to put their plates down to deal with our arriving plane... we arrived right as the burgers were done apparently...

If the OP is so worried about safety and environment they may want to research why the PHX terminal skytrain which has the highest bridge in the USA goes above ground versus underground. Can you say "UNDERGROUND LEAKING JET FUEL PLUME"? You have to love how some things are right below your feet.

Haven't read the thread, I'm sure it's a trainwreck of chickenlittles wringing their hands, but to answer your question, OP, people use these to cook hamburgers and hotdogs etc. So my guess as to why it's at this gate is that some people were cooking. Glad we could help.

I'd prefer a hamburger. It would be nice if the BBQ for gate/cabin delivery could be preordered.

At least you admitted you didn't read the thread before adding nothing.

Shake Shack too expensive upstairs?
Maybe they put stuff in there to "cool off" from the PHX summer heat?
It even has a couple of cleaning utensils hanging from the shelf.

pretty typical to have cooking stuff downstairs. Companies will normally have bbq for the ramp every now and then or as a reward for hitting certain metrics etc.

I hope this doesn't scare you too much, but quite a bit of GSE runs on larger propane tanks that they *gasp* store on the ramps.

but please, let DL know, I'm sure someone would love the laugh.
