When is the 767-300ER set to retire?
I know the 400's are being refurbished and the 300's are eventually going to be "replaced." Is there a proposed date for their replacement? Going to book a flight about a year from now in D1.

For what it's worth, the interiors will definitely be refreshed again - probably after the 764 refurbs are done. Unfortunately if they follow the 764 playbook it means that they will refresh it with the same somewhat cramped seats (with a facelist - new IFE, new seat material, etc). But that won't even be started by early 2021 - it's probably more a 2022 timeframe to start the refurbs.

From Post #69 :
Further information is coming to light in terms of the near term future of the 76W fleet:
1) The 76L fleet (going through maintenance this Winter) looks to remain in place through the W20-21 schedule
2) The 76Z refurbishment will affect 32 frames with #180 being the oldest to go through the refurb
3) #188 is the prototype for the 76Z refurb; currently in CAN
4) Two more 76Z should go through refurb this Winter (subject suppliers), culminating in a fleet of 3 during S20 schedule
5) The 4x ex-Gulf 76Zs are not scheduled for refurb (could fit into the NFL rumor although no NFL refurb has yet been scheduled)
6) The fate of the 76T fleet as well as 5 ex-76Ts (which are some of the youngest 76Ws) remains unknown (i believe these 12x frames will eventually get Delta Suites)
So in terms of 76W retirement from pax service, we're probably looking at (subject to fuel and economic impacts as well as internal planning):
W20-21: 4x ex-Gulf (1502-06)
W21-22: 8x 76Ls (171-179)
W-22-23: 5x refurbed 76Zs (180-85)
Will be interesting to see what happens to the JFK-LAX route once the 76Ls retire. Will they go back to a mishmash of widebody types and 75Ws like before or will the outcome of the 76T fleet play into it?

Awesome! I did not know that - thanks for correcting me. Sounds like at least a few will be done by early 2021 then (although given the size of the fleet, the probability that OP is on one of the refurbished ones is low.. there are better odds of an equipment swap to a better product than having a refurbed 763!).

I'm sure flying these internationally isnt the greatest experience, but as someone who mostly flies domestic transcons, I love this bird. If I'm on an ATL-LAX or ATL-SEA flight, this and the D1 equipped 752 would be my first choices.

The 767-300ERs are the workhorse of the Delta Long Haul Fleet so I anticipate that they'll be around for years to come especially with the hard product investments being made in 2020-2021.

Whereas they are not great in D1, they are very good in C+ and Y (leg room, recline, etc.). I am worried that refurbished birds will lose some of their attractiveness in Y/C+.

What are the hard investments in the 300 series? I thought it was 400s only?

Yes, no change in seat width and 2-3-2 arrangement, but 777 C+ seats do not seem to recline as much anymore after refurbishing compared to before. Also, C+ legroom has decreased from 35" to 34". I would not be surprised if refurbishing the 763s will lead to the same changes in pitch and recline.
