DL427 9/4 incident

Currently sitting at the gate after someone charged towards the cockpit from economy through business class demanding that the pilot turn the plane around and he wanted to get off. He was having a panic attack it looks like. It took a big big flight attendant and a few of us to get him still in the aisle. Super crazy and hectic. After the struggle he sat somewhat calmly in a seat until we got back at the gate and Port Authority police arrested him. 1.5 hour delay, we ended up needing a new flight plan and more fuel. Craziest experience I’ve ever had on a plane.

Poor guy. Hopefully he was taken to a hospital. But sadly the airlines and police are very ignorant of mental health issues.

If it’s truly mental illness I totally agree.

Unclear if it was substance related or mental health. The whole cabin was pretty shaken up, he thrashed around quite a bit into people’s seats. The b line for the cockpit on a flight out of jfk the week before 9/11 definitely attracted quite a police presence/escort back to the gate

Often substance abuse is a symptom of a mental health issue. Panic attacks are no fun, especially if you've never had one and don't know how to manage it.
